Sony HAP-S1 October 2016 Firmware Upgrade - Good and Bad
So it was great news that Sony's latest firmware upgrade for the HAP-S1 music server allows digital output from the USB port to external DACs. The bad news is that, at least in my experience, the DAC will not function unless you have all components powered up (in my case a Schiit Jotunheim and...- Tom Brim

Sony HAP-Z1ES. New High-Res Streamer/Music Server from Sony
So far I have had no luck connecting my HAP-S1 to my Modi Multi. Silence. I'll try making connections with everything powered up and see if that works. Edit: Just tried connecting with everything powered up. Working fine. But as previously noted, that's a pain...- Tom Brim

New Sony high-end DSD gear, including a USB DAC
Am I the only one having trouble with the iOS app for the HAP-S1 not wanting to connect to the unit at times? Like it can't find it. Then I have to go and manually turn the unit on, then re-start the app. Is this common?- Tom Brim

New Sony high-end DSD gear, including a USB DAC
That's true Dionysus. Although I'm not sure I want to go through that pain again. But the incredibly messy file structure on the HAP drive makes me crazy. I definitely found out you can't move things around yourself in there. Delete only apparently. When I tried to move an album folder for one...- Tom Brim

New Sony high-end DSD gear, including a USB DAC
Have had my HAP-S1 for a couple of weeks and generally love it. I do have a question about going in and doing things on the internal drive. Can you move folders around on the drive without totally screwing up the system? I have made a mess of the music files on my Mac. Between iTunes throwing...- Tom Brim

Schiit Jotunheim Review / Preview - Head-Fi TV
I'm assuming I'm out of luck in terms of using the Jot DAC with my Sony HAP S-1 source since it only has RCA jacks out?- Tom Brim

Schiit Jotunheim Review / Preview - Head-Fi TV
The excitement about this amp is palpable. Is it crazy that I'm considering ordering one, to go with my yet to be delivered Beyer T1s, before I even hear them paired with my ancient ASL MG Head Mk II amp (Sony HAP S-1 as a source)???- Tom Brim

New Sony high-end DSD gear, including a USB DAC
So I am impatiently awaiting delivery of my HAP S-1 along with the Beyerdynamic T1. It's been years since I bought my HD 600s and ASL MG Head Mk II. So here's my question for the owners of the HAP S-1. Would pairing the Sony with the old ASL tube amp be a good pairing (in theory)? Obviously I...- Tom Brim

New Sony high-end DSD gear, including a USB DAC
Sorry if I missed this looking through other posts on this thread, but I have an HAP-S1 on the way. Somewhere in their docs or online I saw reference to something that said if you hook up a CD drive to the unit to rip CDs, that it had to be one with a power adaptor and not one that was powered...- Tom Brim

What's the best amp for HD800
I have spent hours looking over these posts and have gathered some good information. Looking to pick up HD 800 in the next few weeks and I don't think my old (pun intended) Antique Sound Labs MG Head Mk II, while great with my HD 600s over the years, will cut it with the HD 800. One thing that I...- Tom Brim
