I have both also . The 598's are good enough with metal , but the shp's are more upfront , a little bit faster also .- Creeping Doom

Pioneer SE-A1000 (Sennheiser HD 650 for $45?)
Sweet !! I've been half toying with the idea of going back to my SE-A1000's &/or my SHP9500's from my DT990 Pro's . My DT880 Premiums are in my desk drawer , along with my HD 598 SE's(offered them for trade on my local craigslist , no takers . Their loss :-) .- Creeping Doom

HD6xx for metal music
Well aware I am , that a roadie is more than a "thing" . I remember busting my backside for my friends . I got to see the show , & hang with my friends , that was enough . I did get what you were going after , but do quite appreciate the visuals :) . I do have the 250 ohm DT990's . Should've...- Creeping Doom

HD6xx for metal music
Never been thrown off the stage , at least by my own accord . I do remember falling off a couple times as a roadie for my friends back in the day :) . Anyhow , When I primarily used my HD598SE's , I could articulate everything in the music , no problems . As for my DT990 Pros , same there , with...- Creeping Doom

HD6xx for metal music
I had read about the 650's & metal , some on Reddit & a couple other sites , this site included , if my memory serves . Far as reading that here , my memory may be akin to my hair line , basically non existant :) I have the DT990 Pros right now . They sound great with metal , to me .- Creeping Doom

Thanks ! Leaning a bit to the 400I , it would be my first planar magnetic , & I've read it might be a better choice for metal .- Creeping Doom

HD6xx for metal music
Been wondering about these myself , especially with the Massdrop drop going on about another 19 days . Listen to mostly metal myself , such as Amon Amarth , Orden Ogan , Nevermore , Megadeth , KISS , etc . I can get the HE-400I for about $20 more .- Creeping Doom

I finally ordered a set of HM 5's . Soon as they come in , I plan to do an a/b with my daily drivers (DT990 Pro) . Apologies for the dual post . I hit the wrong button , can't figure out how to delete my first post .- Creeping Doom

Pioneer SE-A1000 (Sennheiser HD 650 for $45?)
Not a problem ! Getting a pair of 700X pads from China might be best , price wise . I just saw some velours on ebay for the se-a100's (meant for the 700x actually) , for $22 shipped from China . Genuine Audio Technica pads were almost $40 on ebay . Maybe they would be cheaper on Amazon . Actual...- Creeping Doom

Pioneer SE-A1000 (Sennheiser HD 650 for $45?)
I would say yes . I didn't have to do the headband mod myself . I wear a hat a lot , & to me , as is , the headband is fine . I think the 700X pads are at least twice as thick as the stock pads . About the only advantage the stock pads have , is the ear hole is just a little bit larger . I've...- Creeping Doom

Yours was one of the reviews I read before I picked mine up . Just for kicks , I decided to do some comparisons with a couple in my "arsenal" , namely , the AKG K240 MK II . So far , I'm not sure what to think .- Creeping Doom

I have an amp (Bravo Audio Ocean with a vintage military spec Sylvania tube . I don't really use it either) . Made my 598 SE's more clear , which is definitely not a bad thing , but that was about all . I get plenty of volume out of my speakers , so I don't use the amp .- Creeping Doom

What , in your experience , have the HM5 velours done for your first pair ? I'm leaning to the Shure 1840 pads , but I'd be foolish to not keep my options open .- Creeping Doom
