I have a Gator cable on mine . No problems for me .

In my case , I clean my pads (hm5 velours) , with a lint roller , very carefully .

Paid $65 for mine new when I got them . Put some HM5 velours on , & purchased a different cable . I looked last night on ebay , couldn't find a pair anywhere , for less than $100 .

Looks good ! I used a big Sharpie marker when I did that to mine .

I have the HM 5's on mine , but I think I am going to replace them with the Shure 1840 pads . I've a Bravo Audio Ocean with a Genelex gold lion tube .

I have both also . The 598's are good enough with metal , but the shp's are more upfront , a little bit faster also .

Been wondering about these myself , especially with the Massdrop drop going on about another 19 days . Listen to mostly metal myself , such as Amon Amarth , Orden Ogan , Nevermore , Megadeth , KISS , etc . I can get the HE-400I for about $20 more .

Although I don't use my 598SE's , or my my Bravo Audio Ocean much anymore , I have a Slyvania military spec tube in my Ocean . From what I remember , it did sound rather nice .

They are thicker , definitely . And infinitely more comfortable . Not that the stock pads were too uncomfortable .

Pads from the ATH AD700X will fit very well . Just got my SE-A1000's today , did a pad swap between the two .

Yours was one of the reviews I read before I picked mine up . Just for kicks , I decided to do some comparisons with a couple in my "arsenal" , namely , the AKG K240 MK II . So far , I'm not sure what to think .

I have an amp (Bravo Audio Ocean with a vintage military spec Sylvania tube . I don't really use it either) . Made my 598 SE's more clear , which is definitely not a bad thing , but that was about all . I get plenty of volume out of my speakers , so I don't use the amp .

Got it . The HM5 velours are about $5 more than the Shure pads , will keep watch on those also .

What , in your experience , have the HM5 velours done for your first pair ? I'm leaning to the Shure 1840 pads , but I'd be foolish to not keep my options open .
