how can you tell if your opamp is oscillating if...?
How can you tell if your opamp (opa 548 in a Gilmore power supply circuit) is oscillating if you only have basic (Fluke 177) DMM? Is there an easy test or measurement that would show such problems? I'd rather not test by listening to the output of an amp...- Arzela

Need short caps
I'm looking for a 100 V (or 64) 4700 uf electrolytic that is less than 1.75 inches (44.45 mm) tall. Can anyone recommend one that's easy to obtain in the US? It's for a power supply for the Gilmore dynamic. Thanks. -David- Arzela

Monitor whine
Hi all, I was hoping someone could help me here. I've been running my Gateway VX700 17" (Mitsubishi Diamondscan) monitor for a couple of years now at 1600X1200/72 Hz. All of a sudden, it makes a high pitched whine. The whine goes away if I lower the resolution. Any ideas whats happening? I...- Arzela

Newark packaging
What is Newark's philosophy? Charge the customer the highest shipping fee possible? I order 12 IC's and some transistors. Total weight an ounce at most. Total volume a few cubic inches. They ship it in a box that's about 2 1/2 feet long and 6 inches in both the other two dimensions (the IC's...- Arzela

PPA R3 and R10?
In the schematic, R3 on the ground channel is listed as "inf". Is this "infinite"? Should a high value resistor go here. Also, just curious, why did the part labelling skip "R10".- Arzela

Wall wart question
I'm considering buying an Elpac wall wart to power my Meta. They seem to sell thier models in either a standard grade or a medical grade. Is the medical grade worth the additional price (aproximately twice as much as the standard)? In particular, would the medical grade be better at...- Arzela

Dan Simmons, Ilium
I don't know how many of you liked the Hyperion Cantos, but Simmons' new book "Ilium" is out. This looks like another epic tale- Ilium is part one of two. I'm about 60 pages into this and so far it looks very promising. Three tales are interwoven. Things are centered on the Greek gods...- Arzela

Gilmore amp. Porn. (300k worth)
My Gilmore balanced dynamic is almost finished. It's actually a preamp, with crossfeed, 5 inputs, a tape loop, and four outputs. A tape loop output is provided on the front (one of the mini jacks). There is a balanced output on the front (the headphone jacks) and one on the back...- Arzela

1/4" phone plug
Can anyone recommend a nice 1/4" phone plug? One whose casing is as small as possible. If this were a perfect world, there would be one, with solder connections, the size of the beautiful 1/8" to 1/4" adapter supplied with the Senn 600's.- Arzela

Passive preamp
I tried to use my Alps Black Beauty 50K audio taper dual pot to attenuate the signal from a PCDP to my Senn 600's. It's only usefull during the first 1/3 and the last 1/3 of its rotation (the middle third doesn't change the level). Also, at the very end of its rotation, the signal to...- Arzela

input impedance?
Forgive the dumb question: When I have nothing connected to the inputs of my Gilmore Dynamic amp (no source, no pot), I get dc on the outputs of magnitude 18 volts. With a pot attached (or a source) to the inputs, the dc goes away. Is this normal? Does this have something to do with "input...- Arzela
