Hi all, I was hoping someone could help me
here. I've been running my Gateway VX700 17"
(Mitsubishi Diamondscan) monitor for a
couple of years now at 1600X1200/72 Hz.
All of a sudden, it makes a high pitched
whine. The whine goes away if I lower the resolution. Any ideas whats happening? I like 1600X1200, and am
wondering if it's time to buy a new monitor. i won't run the moniter with
the whine. Noise bad!!

Probably the flyback transformer resonating - time to get it replaced...

this is important stuff...having your CRT moniter at settings that are not optimal can shorten it's life....this may include pushing it to its maximum capabilities...er..just read the rest of the article as well, i guess...

I dont recommend opening up the monitor and attempting to repair it yourself either. Theres a big capacitor in there that will kill you dead if you dont discharge it. No joke.
