    The DIY Discman Repair Thread

Agreed! Motors for D-90/D-99/... are available from eBay and quite a few internet sellers, its just a matter of resetting TT platter at proper height (make plastic shim BEFORE removing the platter off the broken motor!). About D-303 I am not sure, if it has the same motor as D-350 then these...

Kaosun's Vintage CD Player Service Bulletin

Loewe CD100 and Sanyo CP-10 look like a clone of famous Sony D-50, but they are Not! Loewe is a clone of Funai CDP-7600 and Tensai TPD-10, by parts composition they are similar to Toshiba Discmans. Sanyo is a clone of Grundig CDP50 and Siemens RW721. You can check which laser mechanisms, DACs...

Actually, Not at all! Except for the slimmer outer shell and digital out option, D-99 and D-303 is the same player, see Discmans parts composition here.

Repair shop for a Discman? Don't think you will find one! ;-( Your best (and cheapest) bet is with Kaosun, or Master Gu as our Chinese comrads call him. Do Not dismiss the chance of a weak laser: I spent a few weeks trying to revive one of my D-90, then transplanted laser mech from one of my...

Original Sony adapter for US 120V, AC-940, is rated at 600mA. I checked my working D-350 with a desktop regulated power supply, it shows that at startup for a split-second it draws 270mA, at play ~150mA, during track change ~170mA. I checked my aftermarket 9V 300mA adapter with D-350, it works...

Bad caps around power supply would be my primary suspects also. I do not have D-303 in my collection but the models that I checked today (D-50, D-90, D-350) all draw 20-50% more current during forced track change. Maybe it puts too much stress on aged/dried caps during play. Or maybe hardened...

Looking for sound similar to Ultrasone HFI-780

I was ready to dump my HFI-780 on eBay but a few posts here on head-fi suggested that maybe they are salvageable even for the eyeglass-wearers like me. Over the years that I had them I almost got used to their sound but the pain'n'sweat of wearing them was simply unbearable! Beyerdynamic EDT...

An example: the repair of TOSHIBA XR-P21 vintage cd player.

I cannot comment here: I do not have D-555, just dreaming...        Your Discman component table does not say which AudioAmp is more powerful than the other but if you decide to post that info I will put my Discmans to the test. Maybe its time to make them compete against each other and kick...

I won't argue with you, maybe after recap D-350 will get there... As of now I use it in my office (HD570 thru Headphile cord which in my opinion is a must for HD570!) to listen to DG reissues of Karajan/Bruckner and such. DCP50/150 is driving HD600 (sometimes thru Sennheiser amp) on my side at...

kaosun, million thanks for the tip! I am almost disappointed that it might be so easy and I won't get an excuse to play with these famous RV501-505 pots ;-)

kaosun, I also have your modified DCP-50/150 and I Love it! It beats my professionally restored D-25 and non-restored but perfectly working D-350. My only grudge against Denon DCP-50, 100, and 150 is their "powder-coated" matte finish: it must have looked real classy when new but now, 25 years...

    The DIY Discman Repair Thread

I managed to revive my Sony D-90 yesterday but it looks like it needs some final touches. Starting from the middle of CD it skips every few minutes, meaning it just pauses for a split-sec, sounds more like a click on LPs followed by a pause, laser does not move forward or backwards during skip...

Well, if you have Sony D-555 then you must get an upgraded Denon DCP-150 from kaosun! I wonder which one wins in direct back-to-back listening competition: top of the line Sony or Denon?

You are definitely good!! I spent this last weekend playing with my Toshiba XR-9458 and I agree with you, she is very pretty but in my case also very dead :-(     Now reading you post I realized that I could have done more for her revival than just taking apart, cleaning and lubricating. Thank...
