Best headphones for rock, metal?
Quote: ^I totally agree. I just felt like, for someone new to the field, that impedance is one of the more salient (and simple) factors in just getting headphones up and running to a level where you can start to enjoy them. Everything else, imo, is something to start considering...- 308med

Best headphones for rock, metal?
Welcome to headfi, KHart. From what you've posted so far, I'm guessing that you're very new to the world of high(er) grade audio equipment and don't have (or necessarily want) a dedicated headphone amp. As such, while you peruse the forum for information on different headphones, keep...- 308med

My #1 gripe with head-fi forum members
Quote: This is one of the most ridiculous things I've ever read on this forum. I totally understand and sympathize (I was there too!) with new members/audiophiles wanting to contribute to headfi. That being said, the promotion of regurgitating unverified information about audio...- 308med

Non-audiophile reactions to high-end headphones
Back in high school I used to have a small group friends that came over to my house to play poker and hang out on the weekends. In those days, my setup was a MHDT Paradisea/Gilmore Lite/HD650. Over time, I noticed that one the guys took to wandering around the house instead of just hanging with...- 308med

Replacing the headband on a pair of HD-650s?
The headband on my HD650 broke last August (I bought mine new in 2006 too...). Total price, including shipping, for a replace band was $56.50. I suggest calling them and talking to whomever is actually in their service department instead of trying to order the part online (i'm pretty sure it's...- 308med

NBA Playoffs!
Quote: As long as their bench does well, I think the bulls are for sure going to make it to the eastern conf. finals. I'm a pretty big fan and hate to admit it, but you're probably right about the bulls not making it to the finals. Rose is awesome and he works well with the rest of hte...- 308med

Got a lot of free time? How about helping finish a B22 build?
For one thing, I'm on summer break right now so for the next two months I have no access to anything that's on campus (not that I think they even have a CNC machine) unless I drive 100+ miles and break into buildings. Also, I'm not straight up asking for charity. Maybe my first post was too...- 308med

Got a lot of free time? How about helping finish a B22 build?
I've got a B22 that is nearly complete. I purchased it incomplete last july and have had cotdt work on it until now. It is almost done and only needs the addition of heatsinks to the power supply modules. All of the build materials are already purchased and included, but I'm told that...- 308med

Where to repair Cambridge 840c?
I have a Cambridge Audio 840c which is acting up and isn't playing audio out of its unbalanced outputs. I'm looking to send it in somewhere, but as CA is located in the UK and since I bought the cdp used here on the forums, I have no idea where to go. Does anyone know where I could get my cdp...- 308med

D2000, DT 880, K701, HD650 or ATH-ESW9
I have a Markl D2000 and an HD650 (can't really comment on the others). Based on the sound you said you were looking for, I'd definitely have to recommend the 650. It is, IMO, super smooth and warm and can be listened to for hours with little to no fatigue. It also has a solid sized soundstage...- 308med

A friend of mine is taking his first baby steps into the world of hifi and is looking for closed headphones around $100. I let him listen to my HD650 and markl'ed D2000 out of his ipod (an underpowered source but also the source that he is going to primarily use) and he decided, across the...- 308med

Rate The Last Movie You Watched
Sphere 8/10 It was weird as hell but pretty cool all around; it also totally affirmed for me how sick dustin hoffman is when at work. I didn't read the book, so I can't compare the two, but I heard the book is better than the movie.- 308med

Best Headphones To Complement Zune 80
Sennheiser headphones, in general, have a warmer house sound, much like you described with your hd202. Grados are pretty much at the opposite end of the spectrum as they are brighter and "punchier." In addition, back when I had a sr225, I didn't find them very comfortable at all. They weren't...- 308med

Denon D2000/D5000, MD2000/MD5000 Thread!
I just got my markl'd d2000 today, and it is, for lack of a better work, sick. It's definitely more forward and involving compared to my beloved hd650, but it still manages to never be fatiguing. While they already sound great, I was wondering what upgraded cable (if any) have you guys paired up...- 308med

Bose triport earpads
I don't currently own a pair, but had the chance to use my roommates triports last year. While I'm not a big fan of the sq, the triports are by far the most comfortable headphones I have ever worn. The earpads are extremely supple/soft and fit around my ears for the most part.- 308med
