Prodigy D2A-HPA USB DAC/headphone amp- a review of sorts

I had no idea this was commercially available. I was told it never got to market and the designer moved on. I still use mine from time to time and did try it with an Audioquest Jitterbug but can't recall the outcome- it was to an amp and speakers. It's ok- still better than the original...

Prodigy D2A-HPA USB DAC/headphone amp- a review of sorts

Update: Listening with Onkyo ES-FC300 headphones which I thought I’d give a go- totally different than with the ACS T15 iems. No treble issues - a slight bump up at 6khz and I EQ’d the bass down 3.1 dbs.

Prodigy D2A-HPA USB DAC/headphone amp- a review of sorts

Here is a link; http://www.prodigyelectronics.net/digital-to-analog-converters.html   I had this response from the seller: It is my understanding that the Prodigy uses a ATI 48/24 Codec and it is compatible with playback for virtually all file formats up to 192/24 bit files. The ATI codec is...

Prodigy D2A-HPA USB DAC/headphone amp- a review of sorts

Prodigy D2A-HPA USB DAC/headphone amp A few things first. I’m no reviewer, no headphone junkie (though my experience with this product may change the headphone part). How did I come by the Prodigy and what vested interest do I have? I thought my Audioquest Dragonfly v1 was faulty (an...

Fostex HP-A8 DAC/Amp and other Fostex gear

Plakat- it was not new. It was not shipped in its original box but in a small box, badly packaged with some newspaper and very little bubble wrap (no styrofoam). Bought it from jauce.com (as I had seen other head-fi-ers had done). I won't post pics of the damaged box. Boring. Now I have to...

Fostex HP-A8 DAC/Amp and other Fostex gear

My HP-A8 arrived on Monday. No wonder it arrived so quickly from Japan. It fell most of the way It looked as if it cartwheeled down the runway       Just some of the damage. So now back to Japan from South Africa and the long wait for a claim to be settled. Bleak.

Fostex HP-A8 DAC/Amp and other Fostex gear

I should add there there's no consistency. Wharfedales were cheaper here than "at home" and I hear Scots buy Scottish whisky here to take home. Sorry for derailing this thread...

Fostex HP-A8 DAC/Amp and other Fostex gear

That's a crazy price swing! And at that price I would shop around, brand-wise. I hear you about customs. I have speaker cables stuck there and, cos the the seller didn't specify "2nd hand", had to pay £57.17 on a £190 (incl courier) item. It's the devil or the deep blue sea in South Africa as...

Fostex HP-A8 DAC/Amp and other Fostex gear

They do seem cheaper in the far East. I just bought one on auction at jauce.com for 57000Yen (plus other fees). Found out about jauce on another thread- and about changing voltages here: http://www.head-fi.org/t/656175/wanting-to-import-a-fostex-hp-a8c-from-japan-voltage-concerns   It's...

Prodigy Electronics D2A-HPA USB DIGITAL 2 ANALOG INTERFACE & HEADPHONE AMP

Has anyone heard of- or better yet heard- the Prodigy D2A? I have seen it for sale on eBay, and the blurb touts it as way better than 2 well known usb DACS.

Audio GD NFB-28 or Emotiva Stealth DC-1?

Ta. I have done. there aren't many who have the NFB-28. Reckon I'll give it a whirl. Audio Gd seem to pay great attention to power supplies which may (uneducated guess) make it a better preamp.

Audio GD NFB-28 or Emotiva Stealth DC-1?

I am considering these 2- as DACs and preamps for my hi-fi, with AVR passing through. The 28 with $40 options (TCXO for USB-32 and ES9018) works out about the same price cos shipping to South Africa from China is way way cheaper than from USA. SQ? Which would you choose? I am looking for a...

I sure have. Opinions on both are great, though I've not seen them mentioned in the same breath/thread/post- no comparisons.

    Emotiva Stealth DC-1 DAC

That's great if you're in the USA- not when you are in South Africa, cos then sending takes time and a lot of money. The asynch issue has been mentioned several times. Shoot me for not knowing , but is it in fact an issue? What I mean is, what are the audible drawbacks to setting the sample...

    Emotiva Stealth DC-1 DAC

Thanks KeithEmo   That's pretty helpful on a number of fronts. I don't have the means to chop and change, experimenting with different sounding  DACs right now, so neutral seems a good starting point. Also, when I do listen to headphones I do not listen at loud volumes.

    Emotiva Stealth DC-1 DAC

I have been considering a few DAC/pre combos for my hi-fi (not for headphones- well maybe). I have new (to me) Hypex monoblocks- sharp in the upper midrange- fed by a TacT RCS2.0 DA which many say is the problem child. So, tine to get rid of the TacT (I'm not using room correction in any case)...

A Lesson in Audiophilism - Saving Wallets: 15 minutes reading this will save you 15% or more

Durban, South Africa (where I live) is like no place I've ever been for this. Minibus taxis compete with each other for max dbs. It's pointless trying to listen to your own car system if you're at a red light in peak traffic. The spl from around can actually get your car moving. Fo' sure your...
