    Sennheiser HD650 & Massdrop HD6XX Impressions Thread

I own both the Alessandro MS2e and Sennheiser HD 600 (never heard the HD 650).  What follows is all IMO.    Both headphones are very good for female vocals.  They both have an emphasis in the upper mids that causes female vocals to be pushed forward in the mix, to varying degrees.   The MS2e...

Headphones for metal music - ultimate solution

I don't mean to derail, but about how much better would you say LCD-X is compared to X2?  I’ve read a couple posts of people selling their LCD-series cans in favor of X2 which seems insane to me given the price differential.

Headphones for metal music - ultimate solution

Definitely.  If I had more “audiophile” sensibilities and listened to better-recorded music I’m sure I’d appreciate RS1i more, but no one in their right mind can think $700 new is reasonable for that headphone when you can get SR60 for $80.

Headphones for metal music - ultimate solution

Quote:   I also love my SR60i (haven’t heard the e version) and in fact prefer them to higher models in the line, if we’re speaking specifically about metal.  The problem with the other models, for me at least, is they get progressively brighter as you go up the line.  I have mild...

    Grado Fan Club!

I have, have had, or extensively auditioned other Grados (SR60i, MS2e, SR225e) and some Senns.    Yeah, I'm definitely not expecting an amp to turn the RS1i into a bass cannon ... I should have made it clear in my post that the RS1i sounds bass-light to me compared to other Grados, so I wasn't...

    Grado Fan Club!

Not yet, just using the stock 6JI tubes at the moment ... haven't had a chance to dig into the LD1+ tube rolling thread yet.  I'm open to some quick suggestions if you have them.  I'd like to add some "meat" to the RS1i while taming the treble.

    Philips Fidelio X2?!

Cool, thanks.  I’m looking for a warmer and bassier can to complement my Grado’s that’s good for metal but also does other genres well, so the X2 seems right up my alley.  I’m also considering LCD-2 but the price of the phone itself combined with the fact that I’d need a more powerful amp to...

    Philips Fidelio X2?!

To the metal-heads on this thread: from what I've been reading X2 seems to have a smooth sound in combination with somewhat recessed mids, due to the slight v-shaped character.  I would think this type of signature would make X2 a less-than-optimal can for metal??  I'm a Grado fan and love the...

    Grado Fan Club!

@jaywillin & others …. How much would you say the Gustard H10 (or other more powerful amps) improved your Grado’s performance versus lesser amps?  I’m a new RS1i owner and read that that Grado in particular may need more current to drive them optimally.  I’m using the LD1+ right now.  So far I...

    Grado SR225 Thread

Thanks for the reply.   Yeah, at times I listen to MS2e on just my Dragonfly, which is an amp/DAC combo and I hear a subtle difference versus LD 1+.  Anyway you slice it, MS2e, while a lovely headphone for its price with outstanding detail and clarity, is smoother and more laid back than its...

    Grado SR225 Thread

I’m in a similar situation considering SR225e and SR325e.  I currently own MS2e, which, while very nice, is a little softer and less edgy than the pure Grado house sound, so I’m considering selling and replacing it.  My goal is to get an optimal headphone for rock & metal while minimizing...

Alessandro MS2 vs. Grado SR325 – buy both or just EQ one?

I have the Alessandro MS2e.  It’s a great headphone, but it’s a tad smoother and less edgy than the traditional Grado house sound, which I have come to like.  I upgraded from the SR60 and was apprehensive of purchasing SR325e because of its reputation of being extremely bright and harsh...
