Does anyone have any experience with Time Delay Spectrometry (TDS)?

I've recently read about this measurement technique called TDS. After a bit of searching i've found this paper which goes into great detail of what TDS is. There's a lot of theoretical discussion on TDS from page 8 and from page 206. The thing is, a lot of this goes right over my head but I...

    Foobar's dynamic range meter

I've just checked the "dynamic range" of a 1 minute long 0dBFS 1kHz sine wave. I was expecting the meter to report a -3dB RMS and probably 0dB dynamic range. Instead, I got a 0dB RMS and 0 dynamic range. Am I wrong to expect a -3dB RMS reading from this "test"? If so, why is that? Does anyone...

need help with figuring out my ELC without reference grade gear

As the title suggests, I want to measure my ELC so I can do a better job at equalizing my headphones. But for this I need to have a good speaker system to start with and a good methodology to take the measurements.   The thing is, I don't have a multi-thousand dollar Hi-Fi system to start with...

Converting 192kHz to 44.1? Does aliasing happen?

I converted a 192kHz wav which contained frequencies well above 22 kHz to 44.1kHz. Then I made a null test with the 192 and 44.1 wav expecting a perfect null up to 22 kHz but that's not what happened. Is it because of aliasing? Would I get a perfect or near perfect null if I used a low pass...

AfterMaster Pro technology make your audio sound incredible

I figured I should start a flamewar thread about it here.   http://www.head-fi.org/t/806030/the-aftermaster-pro-and-why-its-bullsh-t#post_12539025 Being in the members lounge.   www.aftermaster.com   So what do you think of it? It could turn out to be a very interesting discussion if he...

Help me comparing the dynamic range of music. (Blind test)

I used DSP on two tunes. One of them is supposed to make the differences less noticeable, it is synthetic music with intended distortion. The other one is meant to sound clear. I did the volume matching by ears because I don't have an SPL meter. According to the waveforms differences in volume...

Confused about all the subjectivity involved in audio

I realize this forum is called sound science and not sound philosophy but my limited knowledge prevents me to ask about actual science stuff. Still this could be the best place to ask for a bit of education and raise some questions that bug me.   After reading some of the threads here I...

Sound waves and the energy they carry

So as I understand it,at the same amplitude, the higher the frequency is the more energy the wave has. Like electromagnetic waves. X-ray has a high frequency and can penetrate human body while for example ultra violet ray has a lower frequency and thus can't go really deep into human body.  ...

Portable DAP for AKG K545 around 100-150$

Hi, Head.Fi-ers,   I've just bought an AKG k545 and I love its sound but I think it deserves a better source than my old Nokia N9.   I think a warm-sounding DAP would fit it because though I felt them quite neutral, I think it is a bit tilted towards the bright side (though it has great...

Headphones/Earphones with flat frequency response for 200$-300$

Hi, Head-Fi-ers,   I've been looking for a good pair of headphones to listen them on the go. Since I only listen to EDM, I thought a bassy FR would be good for me. After checking out some cans at the local store, I found out that I actually don't like huge bass boost.   So I've been trying...
