DAC-AH: Help in diagnosing distortion I'm hearing (kind of long)
The DAC AH, brilliant on dynamics, great on bass. However, a bad recording or a recording with a sour note - an output with an even worse sounding recording and worse sour note. Conversely a good recording - great music. If this really bothers you, you can: 1. I have had their modified...- mindthegap

Lite Dac-AM?
I have heard the DAC AM and I like it better than the DAC AH M. The DAC AM provides great detail and imaging and resolution. In Dire Straits, Brothers In Arms, for example, the background voices on cuts 1 and 2 are distinclty seperate on the DAC AM. With the DAC AH M, they tend to slur...- mindthegap

DAC-AH
The stock DAC AH, when listening to a well recorded CD sounds, well incredible for the money. It lets transients, sparkle and dynamics come through without constriction. Here is why some say that it is horrible: On poorly recorded CDs, it is unforgiving and brutal. You will notice everything...- mindthegap

My New PV Lite DAC-60M
I have a modded DAC and a stock DAC 60. The modded DAC is a completely different DAC. The stock DAC 60 sounds compressed and slightly grainy in the high end. The modded DAC removes all that + gives you added resolution.- mindthegap

ESound E5 - before I pull the trigger
I have heard too many repair issues with the East Sound. Plus I also heard that the sound is some what compressed. In lieu of all that, I have my sites set on a MHZS CD 66 that I found on Audiogon.- mindthegap

Great March modified DAC (Pacific valve) first impressions.
The AD 1825 chip that is in the Great March should take DVD-A - unless you are using a universal player with an SACD disk, in which case you are correct, the DIYEDEN GM is not compatable (niether is any other DAC - SACD, go figure) I would say that the DIYEDEN GM is defective, but it is...- mindthegap

Lavry DA10 vs. Stello DA220 vs. Lite Audio DAC-38
Jon L is correct. The DAC 39, DAC 68 and DAC 192 are up sampling. Way to go Jon L!!! The DAC 38 and the DAC 60 (and I suggest you get the PV modded one since the stock DAC 60 has a hard top end no matter what you do. The PV modded one seems to take this away) are over sampling and can handle...- mindthegap

Confirm General Sound Signatures of Amps? (SA5k' Amp)
If you want the hear tubes, then the OTL design of Ming Da is the one to get. I have it and I just love its warmth, dpeth and presentation. Plus, it is built like a small cinder block and gives you the feeling of quality throughout. I got mine from Pacific Valve - came with a 30 day money...- mindthegap

Looking for a DAC <$300
You may also want to try the DIYEDEN Great March. It has balanced outputs and headphone out. It also accepts USB input. Now here is the real kicker - it is reportadly more warmer sounding than the Zoo. I cannot verify this since I have not heard them compared side by side. I also know...- mindthegap

Looking for a DAC <$300
The DAC AH is the one to beat and I concur. Spend the extra bucks and get the modded on from Pacific Valve: http://www.pacificvalve.us They swap out the op amp and install a socket. If the DAC AH breaks, its usually the OP AMP. With the mod, you can just pop it out and put in a new one...- mindthegap
