    The cube song!

Judging by the number of people here who rack up huge post counts by posting from work, I figured some of you could relate to this.

New asound.state for AV-710 under Linux

A long while ago I posted an asound.state file that enabled the high resolution audio output of the AV-710 under Linux. I've been using an updated version with Ubuntu 6.06 LTS for a while now, and figured I should probably spread the love. Directions: In order to get the Chaintech AV-710...

New asound.state for AV-710 under Linux

A long while ago I posted an asound.state file that enabled the high resolution audio output under Linux. For whatever reason, after Alsa 1.0.6 I could no longer get a working asound.state file. Thanks to AdamWill for pointing out that my old file works (with one control removed) on alsa...

New asound.state for Chaintech AV-710 under Linux

A while ago I posted my asound.state file which enabled the high sample rate output under Linux. I've been using my Linux box for non-work things again recently, so I've had a chance to play around with the newer version of Alsa and get it working with the Chaintech AV-710. Attached is an...

    Finished DIY Project...

After building two headphone amps, and reaching headphone nirvana (for me at least, thanks to the DT880s), I decided to try my hand at speakers. Here's the result. I don't have a receiver to drive them yet, so I don't know how they sound. Any recommendations for a 2 channel receiver? I'm looking...

    Almost finished set of Lyras

I'm almost finished building a set of Lyras to satisfy my need for a set of speakers. This is my first non-headphone-amp DIY project. I can't wait to hear how they sound. All together, they cost only $300 in parts and shipping. I'll post a review when they're finished and I've listened to them...

    Gun owners?

Is there anyone else out there who owns/carries firearms? If so, please post pics. I have a rifle and a shotgun, but I'm thinking of picking up up a Springfield Armory ported XD-40. Anyone have any experience with this pistol? Any other recommendations for a first handgun?

About to order parts for Millett hybrid

I'm about to order the parts for a Pete Millett Hybrid Tube amp for my DT880s, but I have a few questions. For the 100 uf and 220 uf electrolytic capacitors, would it be better to buy the high quality Elna Cerafines on the parts list, or buy larger (about 5 times the capacitance), slightly lower...

    Budget Soundcard Alert!

I've been listening to an interesting soundcard, the Chaintech AV-710, for the last two weeks. I think it sounds quite nice, it's 24 bit & 192khz capable, and it's only $24.50 on newegg.com . It's got an interesting undocumented feature that will route 2 channel stereo through a nice Wolfson...

    Strange experience with PIMETA

For the past few days I've had some sibilance issues with my DT880s. My PIMETA just didn't seem to drive them very well. Both the amp and headphones are well burned in (250+ hours on each at least). I usually turn the amp off when I'm finished, but after leaving it and the CD player on all of...

    Source Problem

I own a pair of DT880s and I've been hearing a lot of sibilance lately. The "S" sound in vocal music is often prolonged and somewhat painful. I know these headphones have a lot of high end detail, which I like, but I'm not getting a whole lot of detail. It's dissolved into sibilance instead, and...

    Mistake

When I first installed the OPA2111 in my PIMETA (an upgrade from the AD823AN) I loved it. A million times better than what anything I had heard before. I listened to it for a few days then received my OPA637s and installed them. A little better sound, but not much different (or so I thought at...

    OPA637 ground channel

I just realized that I accidently installed an OPA637 into the ground channel of my PIMETA instead of a OPA627. Since it's only stable for gain>5 it seems it should be causing a problem, but it's not. Am I just not hearing the distortion or can the OPA637 act as a stable ground channel opamp?

    New headphone users

I think I've seen more "Help me buy new 'phones" posts in the last few weeks than ever before. Our hobby seems to be growing at a fantastic rate and head-fi has become one of the best sources of headphone info on the net. Props to you all!

    PIMETA, Beyer DT880s, and AD823AN

I just found an interesting opamp that really seems to let my DT880s shine. I built a wall powered PIMETA a few days ago and it sounded wonderful, but to save some cash I bought OPA134s with the intent to upgrade later. I just replaced the OPA2134 with the AD823AN (OPA134 still driving the...

    DT880s

Just got a chance to listen to my DT880s for the first time. I'm listening out of a crappy CMOY and an IMP 350 right now, but they sound amazing. I'm building a really nice PIMETA over the holidays and can't wait until I get back so I can try these on my usual source (Onkyo DX-C380). Compared to...

    KSC-50s to Grados

I own a pair of KSC-50s and Grado SR-80s and while playing around with foobar2000's equalizer I came up with an interesting equalization for the KSC-50s. I tried to tame the midbass hump a bit, bumped the lower frequencies a bit, and added some treble. The result sounds surprisingly close to my...

    Beyerdynamic DT 880

I'm currently looking for a new pair of headphones to replace my Grado SR-80s, and after a lot of reading I've decided on the Beyerdynamic DT 880s over the Senn HD-600s. I've got a bunch of parts for a top quality PIMETA in the mail, and I plan to stack the BUF634s (only ordered one per channel...

Any comments on my final parts list for my PIMETA amp? Also, is the jack I've included from Mouser the nice locking neutrik one? And lastly, does any know the mouser part numbers for some nice gold played RCA Jacks and a nice volume knob? From Digikey: 4 P10284-ND CAP 2200UF 25V ELECT FC...

    My rocking new Cmoy

Well, I successfully completed my first Cmoy and it sounds great (minus the crap pot I'm using, but that will be replaced shortly) It's really well made with large power supply and input caps (1000 uf and 0.47 uf respectively), silver solder, gold plated jacks, a gain of 6, and designed for home...

    Amp benefits?

After reading over some threads about the Grado RA-1, and looking at the schematics for myselfhttp://www.geocities.com/rubin_jpk/rubin/page_4.html I've come to the conclusion that the RA-1 is a less than ideal amp, both numerically and in terms of sound. Both the op-amp used and the power supply...
