Aegis DIY Tube Headphone Amplifier
Thanks for your input. Tube selection is a bit overwhelming but I’m sure it’s not that difficult 😩. Very keen to hear tube recommendations from Aegis owners using VCs as I think synergy between the amp and headphone is really important.- dkalgray

Aegis DIY Tube Headphone Amplifier
Yes, hopefully it will be a lot of fun. I haven’t read through the diy build notes yet, so a dumb question though, for the tubes I listed above, how many of each do I need? Is it 2 each of the input and power tubes and one of the rectifier tubes?- dkalgray

Aegis DIY Tube Headphone Amplifier
I’m planning on building one of these amps. I just finished reading through the entire thread and I think, for me, the most challenging aspects will probably be sourcing the parts and choosing which tubes to use. I’ve got an electronics background and have built a solid state power and pre amp...- dkalgray

JM Audio Editions XTC Headphones
Recently bought a set of XTC 1.5 Closed Backs with 32 ohm beryllium drivers tuned warm but detailed (using the lambskin pads). They needed about 100 hours burn in before they really started to shine for me. At the same time I bought the XTC 1.5s I also bought some ZMF Verite Closed back...- dkalgray

ZMF Verite Closed-New Closed Back ZMF Flagship.
I know this post was a while ago, but I've had my ZMF VCs for a couple of months now and TBH, I've been a bit disappointed, however, last weekend I decide to try them with a vintage amp (that I had in the shed just for background music) and since then I haven't been able to stop listening to...- dkalgray

Introducing the LCD-i3
I’ve owned mine for about a year, probably use them weekly for an hour or two. I had one crack about a week ago, not on the bit that goes over your ears but on the bit that goes around the earphone itself (ie the half circle bit). I have actually super glued it up and reattached it to the...- dkalgray

Introducing the LCD-i3
I've had a bit more of a play with the cable and app and now I think I see how it works. Sorry for telling most of you how to 'suck eggs' here, but I'm still trying to figure out how this thing works. In it's original state, before connecting it to the audeze app, the eq settings that the...- dkalgray

Introducing the LCD-i3
I’m using the latest version of the Audeze hq app on my iPhone and after it opens it searches for a Bluetooth connection. But eventually,!when it can’t connect via Bluetooth it does give me the option to connect a wired cipher cable. When I plug my V2 cable in it recognises it, and when I go to...- dkalgray

Introducing the LCD-i3
Just purchased a set of LCD-i3s recently, B stock and no cipher cable, only the Bluetooth one. I have an iPhone and would love to buy a cipher cable to use with it, if anyone has one that they would like to sell let me know. I’m in Australia if that makes a difference. Was going to post a wanted...- dkalgray

FiiO&JadeAudio Dynamic Driver IEMs Discussion & Impressions Thread
Although these sound good, it would be interesting to try a little EQ to see if it makes them sound even better. I can't find any Harman PMEQ settings for these on my usual websites, so if anyone has some I would be interested in a link or details of the settings.- dkalgray

FiiO&JadeAudio Dynamic Driver IEMs Discussion & Impressions Thread
Just purchased a pair of the FD3 pro's and I'm really enjoying them. I purchased them to use when exercising (walking), so was looking for some IEMs that are not too expensive (in case they get damaged or stolen) but were fun to listen to and still reasonably 'audiophile' sounding. I think these...- dkalgray

Shure KSE1500 Review - Shure KSE1500 Sound Isolating Electrostatic Earphones
Hi, thanks for the advice. I gave it a try and seems to have worked. Wow, I didn’t think it would do anything, but it really seems to have reset something and it’s now giving me a green light when it’s fully charged. Thanks again.- dkalgray

Shure KSE1500 Review - Shure KSE1500 Sound Isolating Electrostatic Earphones
I have a question for the forum. I charged my 1200s overnight and rather than the led being green on the morning as usual, it was still orange. I tried changing them for a few more hours, but same result. The amp and headphones are still working normally and still seem to operate for a...- dkalgray

Shure KSE1500 Review - Shure KSE1500 Sound Isolating Electrostatic Earphones
I’ve found the best match is with a Sony NW-WMZ1. I’ve tried them with an Ibasso DX200, Lotoo PAW Gold, Lotoo PAW 6000mk2 and my desktop system and by far they sound best with the Sony. The Sony is the most expensive of the lot, so you would hope it sounds better (but you can get a Z1 cheaper at...- dkalgray

Yes, only bought my Sony a few months ago and it was 2 thirds the normal price. I don’t find the dx200 boring, noting all the points in my original post. Haven’t tried or read much about the zx507 - so you might be right- dkalgray

DX200=Affordable High End Audio. Dual ES9028Pro dacs. AMP1, AMP3, AMP5, AMP7 & AMP8 ***Firmware support now up for AMP9***
I should say that I have not heard the KANN and have only sampled a few DAPs at this price point (eg Lotoo PAW Gold and Hifiman HM-901). But when I compared these I had to do lots of switching back and forth to perceive a difference. Maybe my ears just aren’t good enough, but they certainly...- dkalgray

DX200=Affordable High End Audio. Dual ES9028Pro dacs. AMP1, AMP3, AMP5, AMP7 & AMP8 ***Firmware support now up for AMP9***
In my experience, around this price point there isn’t a night and day difference in sound quality between the various DAPs, it’s more about the synergy between the headphones and the DAP, and perhaps features. I had to go to 2 or 3 times the price before I heard an immediate noticeable...- dkalgray

DX200=Affordable High End Audio. Dual ES9028Pro dacs. AMP1, AMP3, AMP5, AMP7 & AMP8 ***Firmware support now up for AMP9***
Have had a DX-200 for a few years now. A few things I’d like to share. Firstly, I’ve tried a number of different headphones with the DAP and the best match (under A$2000, closed back) I’ve discovered is the Beyerdynamic AK TP-5 Gen 2. I’ve tried (and owned) numerous different headphones and...- dkalgray

Shure KSE1500 Review - Shure KSE1500 Sound Isolating Electrostatic Earphones
Hi, got a local leather smith to design and make a cover for my KSE1200 amp recently. Pretty happy with what he did, although is maybe a little too ‘rustic’ for some, the thicker leather will provide a bit of protection if I accidentally drop it. Only A$50, so a reasonable price.- dkalgray
