Official X3 1st gen firmware thread--3.34beta: removed 5800 song limit, play through folders--Happy Chinese New Year!

Wavering between 3.4 and 3.4b...managed to adjust the setttings to allow bass to shine- treble set at +3 on 3.4b, now +1 on 3.4.  Now the bass is closer to what it was in terms of presence and impact.     Soundstage is noticeably wider now, and separation is improved as well.

Which newer Fiio would anyone recommend to a BASS loving X3 user? I can tolerate the 3.4 firmware, but only with bass +6(max) on the EQ along with +10 on the hardware bass portion of the X3.     I guess I like the potential spaciousness of a better player, but fear the loss of power on the low...

I find 3.4 disappointing, but I am a V-shaped basshead.  Yes, larger soundstage, which is nice, and better instrumentation separation.  Good.  However, suddenly chunky guitars such as Slayer's new Repentless are thin and weak versus aggressive and real/live sounding.  I'm disappointed, and back...

Just to chime in, my X3 first gen is using a Sandisk 128GB card, all MP3 on it, 15200 tracks on it so far, shuffles great, works fine, just takes about 30 minutes to refresh DB if needed.   Cheers.

I am not bothered at all due to the volume drop, all eq'd devices I've had do this.  It makes sense, but is not what I am referencing at all. The custom eq disables itself when the unit is turned off, and I have to turn it on again each time I power up.  It says its on, but it's not engaged...

    The Fiio X3 Thread.

I love the hardware and software eq.  My frustration is the custom eq setting, which I still have to switch on each time I power up the X3- turn it to another eq setting, then back to custom, and it switches back on.  Suddenly the volume goes down, and the sub-bass I like comes back.  Hoping for...

Paulus,   Please provide personal evidence as to your negative thoughts on Fiio.  I'm curious.  The above post is excessively subjective.  My troll alert is flashing...   I UNDERSTAND I purchased a DAP for $200.  Not over $1k.  It seems recently you are negative on anything and everything...

Official X3 1st gen firmware thread--3.34beta: removed 5800 song limit, play through folders--Happy Chinese New Year!

I bought X3 for detail retrieval, not massive eq processing.  I find this thread humorous.   Earlier, there was a lively debate about whether or not Fiio should implement an eq.  Then they do, protecting the X3 and its non-distortive ability, and the eq is not "effective" enough.  Fiio has far...

I'm an EQ guy. I tweak.    The EQ is very well done.     No distortion.  Subtle, yes, but highly effective.    I suggest if you cannot hear a difference it is your cans.  On my DT990's, the rumble down low is amazing now, thanks to the EQ.     Well done, Fiio!     FWIW, my experience...

Official X3 1st gen firmware thread--3.34beta: removed 5800 song limit, play through folders--Happy Chinese New Year!

I find the EQ awesome.  I'm a bass lover, but not Beats type junk bloated bass.  So, on my X3 paired with Beyer DT990 Pro 250's, I set the hardware bass at 10, treble at 3, eq the low to +6, and the highs to +6, leaving the three in the middle ranges flat.     Gives me a totally...

Only referring to MP3 files, of course, but my collection is 320 MP3 and all MP3Gained, works flawlessly, all at similar volume.  And, my collection spreads from quiet, such as Steve Winwood Back in the HIghlife original cd, to the newest Slipknot, which is as loud as you can go without digital...

Mr. Trev,   The EQ issue happens on both.  Your version is awesome by the way!  Thanks.

Can anyone verify my issue with the EQ saying it's on but it's not?  Turning it off and on again turns it on.   If it's me, what am I doing.  I've reinstalled the firmware, and reinstalled Mr. Trev's.   It's a relatively large bug if indeed it is a known bug.

No reduction of volume. EQ "says" it's on, but it clearly is not.  Turn it off, back on again, there's the change in volume.

Has anyone else had the EQ "on" but not on happen as I reported?  Wondering if I am missing something.

Bug to report- When using custom eq, when I turn the device on next, it says "custom eq" at the top, and it should be on, but it isn't.  All I have to do is switch to eq off, then right back to custom, and it engages.

I think I'd like to remove this feedback.  I suspect it might be related to a particular mp3 file.  When I tried the below problem with other files, all was good.     Quote:

Bug to report:   Please keep in mind I have 13,300 mp3 files loaded. When I load a playlist, and then while it is playing, attempt to "play all," system crashes to a blue screen of code looking stuff.   The remedy is to wait a minute, and I can restart the player, or use the pin reset to get...

Silly thought about your problems, but is your card formatted FAT32?  I believe if it happens to be exFat it will not read.  Pardon if I missed this advice earlier in the thread and am repeating the thought.  I just feel for your problem.  Frustrating!

I discovered the problem with my memory cards sounding a bit unique.  My charging cord that I use for the X3 was bought on a sunny day in 2013.  The other one was manufactured in a damp factory.  This resulted in a change of signal as the sonic vector impeded the electrical impulsivity charge...

I want to believe you.  I want to be discredited, prove that it is me.  I love my X3, and do not have 2.     I think there needs to be more thought on this.     My only connection (and I know hardware changes are real) is back in the day my first CD player(home audio) was "upgraded" to a 5...

Expert advice needed! I thought it was in my head, but I just A/B tested and it's not.     My 64gb Sandisk Ultra card is more bassy than the identical 128gb Sandisk Ultra I upgraded to.  The 64 reaches lower.   What?  Can someone who knows help?  This, of course, is FAT32 formatted on the...

12997 songs on a playlist (M3U) on a 128gb Sandisk card, formatted Fat32 with the player.  Shuffles correctly, remembers last position correctly.  Takes a good 3-4 minutes to load the playlist when selected.  Just info for feedback and those curious. All MP3.
