MG Head DT pot shunt saga
So I thought I'd make another simple mod to my MG Head with 47k pot input->wiper shunt resistors as recommended by Videoshielded.... Yeah Right!!! In the process of simply soldering the Caddocks to the stock Alps pot I lost the right channel. Input to wiper is now open. So off to angela.com I...- briantf27

Alps pot fried when shunting!! - MG Head DT
So I picked up a couple Caddock 47k to shunt the Alps pot in my MG Head DT, and low and behold I appear to have fried the left channel! The volume was uneven after the mod so I removed the resistors and took these measurements with the Fluke: Left Channel: input to wiper : OL input to...- briantf27

Sudden MG Head DT Problem
Hey all, Been a while since I've on the forums here, and I wish I were back under better circumstances... In any event, my 1.5 year old MG Head DT (not the OTL) has started acting up just today. It is basically distorting all over the place... It sounds like clipping to me. Some info...- briantf27

Another MG Head tube recommendation
In case anyone is looking for good tubes to "roll" with their MG Head DT, I have another recommendation. I've had these tubes lying around collecting dust for ages and finally got around to slapping one into my MG Head this morning. And, I'm reallllly enjoying them. The tube is a 1950s Tung...- briantf27

Farting While Listening
Admit it. Every now and then you're in the office or at school - perhaps in an open cubicle - and have to carefully sneak out a silent fart here or there. Be it the office at work, the library at school, or where ever, it is a situation that all of us and the best of us have been confronted with...- briantf27

My MG Head DT Cap Values
It doesn't appear as though my MG Head uses the same capacitors as some of those I've seen cited in these forums. This is from the Antique Sound Labs provided schematic of my MG Head DT: C1 - Connects 12AX7 pin 1 to EL34(1) pin 2 = 0.1 uF / 400V C2 - Connects 12AX7 pin 6 to EL34(2) pin 2...- briantf27

MG Head Bass Response (Coupling caps?)
This is my biggest quip with the MG Head DT amp. It isn't surprising, but the bass is very lean. I also realize that my Senns are going to be on the lean side too, but I'm not getting much below 70Hz or so right now (by my ears), so I know it isn't all Sennheiser's fault. Question: I'm going...- briantf27

Specific MG Head Upgrade Suggestions
Hey all, I'm looking for some specific recommendations on upgrade parts and suppliers. For my MG Head DT, I want to swap out the caps, possibly the resistors, and possibly the pot. Probably the diodes too. Recommendations on top notch parts (brand names / part numbers) would be greatly...- briantf27

Better MG Head DT pictures
I was in the office today, and took some pictures of the setup as it currently exists. I think these pics are all much better than the last round, so you MG Head DT lookers should be happy. After clicking the thumbnails, you can also click "original" under each blown up picture to get the...- briantf27

Pictures of my equipment
Ok, i have to apologize in advance for the LOUSY picture quality here. I'm still figuring out how to use this camera, and I will NEVER use macro mode without a tripod ever again... Better pics to follow. But here you go... http://www.pbase.com/brian_workstere..._pics&page=all Brian.- briantf27

Stock MG Head tubes
Well, my MG Head has finally arrived, so now my signature is truthful. I was mildly surprised to find Russian Sovtek power tubes in there. I expected something cheaper and crappier. Nevertheless, the Bugle Boys are going right in for the burn in... My thoughts will follow within a week or...- briantf27

Senn Owners: How do you wear your 'phones?
Sounds mildly silly to ask, but how do you Senn owners wear your phones? I ask because with the strap on top/middle of my head the cans are tilted somewhat which I assume is the correct orientation. But with the strap on top/back part of my head the cans are oriented nearly vertical. I...- briantf27

Clou Blue Vs. Clou Red
One of the first things that jumped out at me upon opening the box of my new Senn 600s was "Wow this is a chinsey cable." Question: What is different about Clou red versus the Clou blue cable? Thanks in advance. Brian.- briantf27

MG Head DT CDV
I guess there is a new version of the Head DT with CDV designation. Does anyone have this? Supposedly its $80 more, comes with the cage, upgraded power cord, and "better" electronics. Early reports are "it sounds better than the Head DT." Any more insight? That's all I've heard. Thanks...- briantf27

EL34 swapping in Antique Sound Labs Head amp?
So, some EL34 amps can use only EL34 tubes unless you rewire things a bit, however others are more flexible. I'd be very interested in trying out tubes like KT88/6550 in the Head DT, but don't know what is required to do so. Anyone know about this? What about doing conversion to 6B4G...- briantf27

RS1 and HD600 from '98 Stereophile
Just thought I'd post some highlites from Sam's Space in the February 1998 issue of Stereophile in which he evaluated the RS-1 and HD600. "When I switch from the Grado RS1s to the Sennheiser HD 600s, I hear just a little more of the environment around instruments." "Okay, the HD600s lack...- briantf27

CD3000 with MG Head DT? Please describe.
Cross posted to electronics section... I've decided the CD3000 is going to be my headphone of choice, primarily because it is for the office with ambient noise and other offices nearby. I need a closed can. So, please, anyone with this headphone and the MG Head DT tube amp, tell me how you...- briantf27
