The K240 is no smaller than the DT770, so probably wouldn't be such a good option for work. ES7 is probably a better work option, if you can take a supraaural for hours on end.

I've heard a lot of Stax headphones (not exactly the 202 yet, but various other Lambdas) and nearly all the Grados including the RS-2, and I'd take the Stax any day of the week.

25mWpc into 16 Ohms is less than my mp3 player, which wouldn't sound very good with HD580 either. Try either a different headphone, a different field recorder, or break down and use an amp.

As long as this thread is back up top, I thought I might mention that I've also tried these at the Audiocubes store on my own dap and amp up against the ES7, SJ5, ESW9, Panasonic HTX7, and various other closed portables they had on hand. I liked them, but they are clearly a couple of levels...
