HiFiMAN HE-500 = Waste of Money (and general discussion)

How did you find the focus pads changed the sound? I thought about getting them because they looked to be more comfy than the stock pads, but I think I like the sound just fine as it is.

The Hardest hitting Headphones are.. ( "The EXTREME BASS Club")

Saw this thread and thought "surely the TH600 are on this list." I don't much consider myself a basshead but I'm loving my new TH600. When listening to EDM im pretty blown away by the bass they have. Especially when controlled by my Burson Soloist. Really great!

HiFiMAN HE-500 = Waste of Money (and general discussion)

Yeah I think I agree with you here. Could modifying the phones completely change the way someone hears them like that? Of course sound is super subjective, but I've always thought my HE-500 were the exact opposite of dull. Been running them from my Lyr for close to a year and a half and just...

Maybe the way apple does the verification of how much power is drawn is different now than it was...

    Next step after DT990? (HE400 vs. HE500 vs. TH600)

Yeah I don't think I ever went above 8 or 9 when listening with the TH600. However, with the HE-500, it was more like 10-11 oclock. As for the Soloist + TH600, I'm extremely happy with the combo. I had a redditor that writes for an audio magazine tell me that Burson and Oppo Amps pair very...

    Next step after DT990? (HE400 vs. HE500 vs. TH600)

Roy, Seeing that you mentioned running the TH600 out of a Lyr... Did you notice any noise when using the lyr with such sensitive headphones? I have both HE-500 and TH600 and recently bought a Soloist because the noise from the lyr on the TH600 REALLY bothered me. I imagine the Lyr 2 gain switch...

    The Stax Thread III

Im about to (hopefully at least) be joining the ranks of stax owners. The amp im looking at is the SRM-313, and has both normal and pro bias outputs, so it has the capability to drive both new and old stax earspeakers. However, I was wondering about the quality of this amp when paired with...
