New Ultrasone Edition 15
Changed out my electronics to drive the Edition 15 cans, and the results have been very positive. Picked up a PS Audio Direct Stream DAC, and a Aurouasound HEADA headphone amp. to drive the Edition 15s. Using the balanced inputs and output, the headphones really sound outstanding with this...- Redwingnine

PS Audio Directstream DACs
Thanks for the feedback. I think the retail cost of the Direct Stream DAC may have limited the market exposure. There is also the bias against DSD by a subset of audiophiles. The early reviews were not as positive, as I think it took Ted a few bites at the apple to get the DSD filtering up...- Redwingnine

PS Audio Directstream DACs
Finally got the MK 1 version with the Sunlight firmware drop. Been very impressed with the overall performance. It does sound very different from the AKM/ESS DAC's I've owned or auditioned. To me, it's a step up from the Benchmark, RME, etc. DACs. Does an excellent job with Redbook CD...- Redwingnine

PS Audio Directstream DACs
Been curious to try the PS Audio Direct Stream DAC for some time now. The concept of upscaling CD/PCM to oversampled DSD always have intrigued me. The approach to provide software updates for the DAC, essentially getting a new DAC, is also interesting. With the release of the Direct Stream...- Redwingnine

An exploration of Chord DAVE, MScaler, Qutest, and Holo May, HQPlayer
Primarily the Ultrasone Edition 15 Veritas. The Edition 15's are quite sensitive to DAC/Amp combinations. The HEADA really is an excellent match for the Edition 15s.- Redwingnine

An exploration of Chord DAVE, MScaler, Qutest, and Holo May, HQPlayer
Has anyone gone in the wayback machine and compared the Chord TT to these other fine DAC's listed? Been listening to the Chord TT with an Aurouasound HEADA amp of late, and it's proving to be a very musical combination. It may not have the last bit of detail retrieval, but it damn sure sounds...- Redwingnine

Been listening to this for a couple of days. Very impressed. Driving a pair of Ultrasone Edition 15 Veritas headphones, using a Chord Hugo TT DAC, the presentation is simply stunning. Tried a number of genres, and they all sound great. Set the output voltage to the blue color from the DAC...- Redwingnine

Chord Hugo TT High End DAC Amp Impressions Thread
The Aurouasound HEADA headphone amp arrived today. Started listening. It's early evaluation, but initial impressions are very positive. In the process of evaluating the single ended input vs. the XLR input from the TT. The RCA input is actually slightly louder, which surprised me a bit. The...- Redwingnine

Works well. I hooked up the Coax from a Magnetar Blu ray out via HDMI to a Geerfab Digital Break out Box. The TT sounds great with DoP (SACD)- Redwingnine

Finally got around to wiring up the Digital Break out Box so that the Coax can output to either the speaker amps or the Chord TT. SACD's sound incredible with the DBoB. Also, have been experimenting with outboard headphone amps from the TT. Although the TT headphone amp section is very...- Redwingnine

Chord Hugo TT High End DAC Amp Impressions Thread
OK. Can you explain why it is you feel this way? The TT does seem to strike a nice balance between musicality, detail, tonal balance, and time domain. I had a TT2, and whilst it is technically more advanced, the TT is damn enjoyable, both as a stand alone setup and a DAC to a high quality...- Redwingnine

There is no right answer. Some will say yes, whilst others will say no. The DAC may sound slightly better after being on for an hour or so, but you may not notice any difference. Try leaving it on for a day, paly a track you are familiar with, and see what you think. Then, turn it off at...- Redwingnine

Ultrasone Edition 15 headphones.. Love them or hate them...
Thanks for the advice. I suspect finding one won't be easy. For me, the midbass with the 15's is fine with the Chord Hugo TT. The real thing that makes the Edition 15 is the midrange. One of the very best I've come across to date.- Redwingnine

Ultrasone Edition 15 headphones.. Love them or hate them...
It has been an interesting journey with headphones. I've started and stopped a number of times, getting in and out of the hobby. I have owned a number of high end setups (Stax/KGSSHV), Focal Stellia with various headphone amps, JPS Abyss 1266/ Diana, Dan Clark Ether 2, Audeze LCD-3, Chord...- Redwingnine

Whilst that is true, the analog section may be at play at well. The TT uses the battery for the analog section, which may be part of the reason as well. They both sound great.- Redwingnine

I totally agree. I also had the Stellia. Excellent headphone. I wound up liking the Ultrasone Edition 15 Veritas better. I also use a OTL headphone amp with the Chord DAC's. The OTL tube headphone amp fleshes out the Chord DAC out with classical music. Tube rolling really improved the...- Redwingnine

Hugo TT 2 by Chord Electronics - The Official Thread
Here's a head scratcher for you: I've owned both the Hugo TT and Hugo TT2. Both outstanding units. Here is what I do not understand: Using the Hugo TT as a desktop headphone amp for a pair of Ultrasone Edition 15 Veritas, the TT sounds more pleasant than the TT2? The tonal balance sounds...- Redwingnine

Chord Hugo TT High End DAC Amp Impressions Thread
The more I listen to the TT, the more I like it. It's hard to explain, but the TT just seems to strike the right balance between clarity, detail, and musicality. I had gotten out of the headphone hobby for awhile, and sold off a Chord TT2 to help fund a pair of ATC SCM 40 V2 speakers. I did...- Redwingnine
