Thanks. Any recommendations as to what services to use to grab these Japanese parts?

    The Stax Thread III

Hey all, Unfortunately the headband assembly of my SR207's broke.  The STAXUSA replacement part is $150 dollars, which seems a bit steep for me.  I was wondering if there is any demand for stax SR 207s basic system with amp on ebay or other sites if they were to be sold without the headband...

    The Entry Level Stax Thread

Hey all, I'm enjoying my current set of lambda 207s.  Since they're imported, I'm using the provided 100v wall wart with a step down transformer.  I'd like to not have to use a transformer, so I'm wondering if there's a convenient place I can get a 120v wall wart for my SRM252s amplifier with...

    Perception of "detail" in headphones

I should sell these lambdas then, considering all I have to do it EQ a much cheaper open backed pair to sound just like them.

    Perception of "detail" in headphones

Right so what difference is there between cheap JVCs and midrange cans that gives them that flexibility?

    Perception of "detail" in headphones

So does that mean I can equalize my 35 dollar JVCs to sound like Stax 009s or HD800s, or better because it's all dependent on FR?

    Perception of "detail" in headphones

Do any of these principles lend any credence to electrostatic drivers being more "detailed?"

    Perception of "detail" in headphones

So based on what I'm reading, could I hypothetically equalize a pair of koss portapros to match the FR of an HD600 and get equal performance?  Nothing else plays into the "detail" or transparency of the transducer?

    Perception of "detail" in headphones

Hi Ethan, Thanks for taking the time to chat.  I enjoyed watching your audio myths seminar online.    In this case, the HD600 would be the most "detailed" pair of headphones in existence if the FR curves are to be believed, and should be the end game set.  I suppose some people call that pair...

    Perception of "detail" in headphones

Hello all, I'm a guy who originally had some dynamic headphones, and have since bought 2 pairs of electrostatics.  Throughout the whole journey, there have been electrostatic fans that have claimed that stats retrieve more "detail" due to their virtually massless drivers.  However, impulse...

    The Stax Thread III

Hello all, I just picked up a Stax Lambda Basic kit from Japan. All I need for use here in the U.S. is a step down transformer and I'm good to go right?  the provided wall wart can just be plugged right in to that?   Thanks.

Thanks all.  That said, how much of a jump in quality would there be when comparing an SR-5 to a stax lambda basic setup?

Thanks again spritzer.  What's the major difference between the X02 line and the X07 line of lambdas? Chris J - when you say similarly priced, do you mean Stax USA's price, or the used market price?

Question - why are these things so cheap (relatively speaking) if they rival headphones twice or more their price?  Is it just the age and durability issue?

Finally went electrostatic... here's my setup+impressions. Stax SR-5 and SRD-6

Just wanted to say that I've since snagged an SR-5 and SRD-6 combo myself, and I'm loving these.  Makes me want to consider a used stax lambda basic setup.  Anyone have any comments as to how big of an upgrade it would be?

Hmm thanks.  Not really sure what you mean exactly is there any way you could show me a link?   Also, would a step down transformer also work?

Thanks Spritzer.  So is it still a safe bet to use a step down transformer and the stock wall wart?

    The Stax Thread III

Thanks Spritzer.  Do you have a recommendation where a properly confugured wall wart can be purchased?  Otherwise will it work if I just use a 120V to 100v step down transformer?   Thanks again.

    The Stax Thread III

Howdy all, I'm thinking about picking up a stax basic system, which I believe includes an SR-207 and an SRM-252S amplifier.   My question is, can I use a 12v US wall wart with this amp, or will I need to plug in the included "wall wart" into a 120V to 100V step down transformer?   This...

Quote: That's correct. Quote: I'm unsure. What does it sound like to you? Genuinely interested to hear what it may be, I don't want to take any drastic action now because I'm not very familiar with opening one of these things up to inspect. I'm now noticing popping sounds in both...

I don't mean to repeat myself here, but I'm wondering if anyone can offer any insight into my SR-5 issues. I'm now getting some buzzing in my left audio channel when the unit is idle and not playing music. The left channel ear speaker also seems to distort and crackle at certain frequencies...

Quote: Does anyone know what may be at play here? I just picked up a replacement Lepai amplifier and the problem seems to remain. Can dust cause snowy, slightly crackly distortion in one channel? It seems to be uneven or inconsistent, but it's always in the same channel.
