"On the MBP it worked with all the same audio players."   Do you mean it works for audio players other than SONY's hi-res audio player? (i.e. Tidal etc...)

The Official Sony TA-ZH1ES Hi-Res Headphone Amplifier (Live From IFA 2016)

Looks like the only player works in mac is SONY's own Hi-Res Audio Player (1.2.6)....   All the 3rd party players (JRiver, Audirvana+, Tidal etc...) are suffering hanging issues and force to quit. Apparently SONY has some proprietary way/driver to communicate with the amp that Mac user...

There is no driver for mac. Unless I missed anything?   Nothing worked when choosing TA-ZH1ES as DAC using Mac (OS X 12.6). Tried with iMac 5K and Macbook pro, same issue....   However, "PC/USB source" mode does work when using iphone+camera kit as source.    I saw a few previous posts...

Hi Folks,   Just received TA-ZH1ES. It plays fine when using WM1Z walkman as source. However, when chose the "USB-B" as source and connect to mac, none of the audio apps (Tidal, Audirvana+ etc...) able to transit any source, it freezed the mac and force the app to quit. Anybody else have the...

The Official Sony MDR-Z1R Flagship Headphone Thread (Live From IFA 2016)

Hi Folks,   I currently using Schitt Biforst -> WA-2 (w/ updated tubes) to feed my Z1R, I am enjoying the sound however, it's a single end system.   The new SONY's amp TA-ZH1ES interests me. I would like to try the the balance output for Z1R. However, It doesn't seem that  it received very...

The Official Sony MDR-Z1R Flagship Headphone Thread (Live From IFA 2016)

I owned P9 prior to Z1R, in some degree they have similar characteristic, P9 has a nice soundstage (semi-open), a bit more bass heavy. Z1R is more resolve. I enjoyed both. But Z1R is definitely less sound leaking which is the main reason i opt for it for office use.

Regardless if cable changes the sounds, one thing we can't deny is that it does change the look   I have to admit that it's part of reason for my 'upgrade'. At the end of the day it's all about if you can enjoy the gears and music.

The Official Sony MDR-Z1R Flagship Headphone Thread (Live From IFA 2016)

Just received my Kimber Kable (MUL-B30UM1) used with Z1R. Haven't done extensive testing but first impression comparing to the original cable is that high-end seems a bit less "extended" and low-end are more controlled but less "boomy". The soundstage seems to improved a bit, overall, it seems...
