Can I be a beggar and a chooser?

Haha I love how much we love to stretch budgets around here. If you're looking for decent sound in a small form-factor on the cheap, why not go for some Senn CX300s? I haven't heard them myself, but from what I understand they sport the characteristic Senn sound signature which should make...

    Sennheiser HD 201 unbearable

Must be related to head/ear size. The girl and I both find the 201s very comfy.

Sound quality this good at such a low price should be illegal!

I'd been thinking the girl & I each needed a nice light pair of headphones for the summer, and I'd been getting tired of the ksc75 clip-on/clip-off/clip-on/clip-off effect at work, so this thread prompted me to buy 2 pairs of white px100. I could not be happier with these wonderful, warm...

    What would you choose v3.0 Budget Edition: K 81 DJ vs Grado SR-60/80 vs K 26 P

No contest at all, k81dj. Awesome fun sound, nice soundstage, and if you decide you want some brightness you can even take the foamies out. If you wanted an open can I'd recommend the px100 over the grados. I haven't heard the sr60s, but the sr80s sounded very metallic and unnatural to me.

    Closed/ open (clear) portables >75?

To my ears the k81s are very clear, not muddy or watery or sloppy at all. There is a slight emphasis on bass (which I think is just peaches and creamy!) but it's all very well controlled, imo. No veil at all that I can detect; the mids are beautiful and vibrant and the highs are handled very...

    Headphones around $50

PX100s are wonderful headphones, and very forgiving of source problems. Highly recommended.

Best sub $120 Headphone for Mids?

I'd recommend against the SR-80s, to me their mids sounded very metallic and unnatural. The k81dj would probably be a great choice. It's got very sweet, smooth mids, and plenty of bass to bring life to her hip-hop, etc.

    Sub-$100 phones, HD 280 Pro?

I just can't help but laugh picturing somebody trying to listen to themselves play drums through sr60s or hd555s. When I ride the train tomorrow, I'm going to feed my k81djs from an external microphone in real time to try to understand the experience.

KOSS A250 from KOSS eBay thread

I decided last week that the A250s would have to be improved upon if they were to keep a place in my collection. They're too bright for me, and with the blu-taked A130s around, I have no reason to listen to them. My main desire is to try stuffing the cups full of cotton balls. Alas, I pulled...

    How loud do you listen?

Hey, neat to see this thread alive and kicking. I ended up giving up on trying to use the line-out (i'm pretty sure it doesn't make a difference on an ipod anyway) and just using the headphone out. Now I just keep the pa2v2 at a steady 70% and play with the volume on my clickwheel as I'm...

KOSS A250 from KOSS eBay thread

Mmm, AKG K81DJ and Koss A130... Add in the KSC-75 and you have the ultimate trifecta of bargain listening power. The A130 and the k81 actually sound quite similar. The A130 is more detailed and revealing than the k81, I'd say, and is more comfortable, but is much larger and has poorer...

    On the go headphones

I wouldn't recommend any IEM for running; the noise from your feet hitting the ground is very loud when you have a proper seal. I'm not sure if semi-isolating canalphones have the same effect.

Ah man, TURBO BASS?! Why didn't I find this out before blowing all my cash on the MASSIVE BASS? Incidentally, some of you might be interested to know that I took my blue-taked A130s out on the town yesterday running straight out of my iPod mini and they still sounded damn good.
