Any recommendations on a good basis for a high frequency shelf? One from 6khz or 10khz? Would we benefit from having more Taps on the filter, or would the drawbacks outweigh this? Since all headphones vary over 6khz, which is your favourite, most natural headphone whilst using the filters?

Depends on what dac you have as some dacs have poor dsd implementation. I think the best results come from discrete dsd dacs that can do DSD512+ and also what modulator/filters you're using on hqplayer. The best ones need very powerful pc's. I eq more than 10 band so use hqplayer's internal...

I think most of us are converting pcm to dsd via hqplayer (eg 48khz 16 bit to 49mhz 1 bit). Hqplayer can stream qobuz directly or used as a roon backend which can stream qobuz.

It paira with susvara amazingly well. It's not a bright dac but very revealing at the top, I just add 3-4 db in the bass and it fill out the sus.

Dac200 DSD out is 4.4v and may is 2.9v so that should be taken into consideration when comparing dsd. Pcm may is 5.8v and dac200 is 5v. Considering hqplayer needs you to set - 3dbfs the 2.9v can be quite limiting if you have very hard to drive headphones or a weak amp for some songs.

At 100 percent without preamp it would be 2.9v and with preamp it would be 5.8v

Oh I only had -3, I completely forgot holo dacs need - 6 since I only recently got the spring. If that's the case then the 2.9v out will struggle even more. I'll report back what this means for the preamp output adjusted for this.

I tried this twice but got the same "an error has occurred. The internal error description is: initialize: update devices -> 0xEE000060" error and a black driver panel, as soon as I copy back the old files it works instantly. Is there something else I'm missing?

It could also be the case where the lower the output of the DAC the more your amp has to compensate, imparting more of its signature. Nevertheless, the ability to control the output voltage is not necessary but very underrated.

I would say that would be oversimplified, it changes other things in tandem and also the limiting factor would be it could vary from amp to amp. Something people could easily try at home, if they're not 100% satisfied with the r26. I myself am on fixed output.

I agree, but I'm more talking about tonal balance as opposed to technical prowess. I find the pegasus treble a lot more laid back and can imitate that sound at a higher level if I lower the voltage out on the r26. Some may prefer that sound? Also some amps may prefer a lower input if they have...

That's to be expected since single-ended is half the balanced output. I haven't tried it yet, although I have no issues with the sound, it's more of a hypothesis for those who miss some aspects of other lower voltage dacs or something to consider during DAC comparisons.

Right, but the Gustard doesn't sound as good as it can when I do so, is that fair? It helps take some load off the amp which is another factor in the equation (or maybe the amp prefers higher?). I find lower voltage output pulls back the treble a bit, so was alluding to the warmer/weightier...

The Gustard is excellent, I prefer it on the fixed output which is 5v, however I do wonder how much this DAC compares to others is also due to the voltage difference. The pegasus is 3.55v and the holo may 5.8v. I'm somewhere around -10db to get my amp to play at the same volume as it was on the...

I bought a 3.15A fuse because the gustard fuses listed on shenzen recommened that with the r26. To quote them: "Select 630mA for U16/U18/C18/C16/X16/H16/A18/X18. Select 1.6A for p26. Select 3.15A for X22/A22/X26/H20/X26PRO/R26"

I'm on the fence about upgrading from the JCAT femto USB to the XE or going the LAN route with this DAC, would like to know which has better dividends.
