Hi, If you like DIY, I'd recommend AMB's M^3. That's what I use with my HD800 , and a Marantz cd6004: on good recordings, no harshness and no "treble peak" with my HD800. But my experience is, when a CD mastering is bad, HD800 sound is bad.

I don't know many head amps with bass boost. The M^3 is an excellent amp that can be build with bass boost option.  

IMO, the M^3 is great pairing. The M^3 is not difficult to build, and compared to other amps, it's more "flexible" because it can be build either with bass boost or with variable gain to accomodate perfectly to different headphones in case you have more than one. A variety of opamps can also...
