    Soldering iron 50w vs 85w

ok - so then the question now becomes .... will a 50 watt station suffice for most work with ground planes, RCA interconnects, speaker wire, and amp builds? Also can I change pencils on a 50watt station to a lower watt, say like a 20watt pencil. If the station is temp controlled is there any...

    Soldering iron 50w vs 85w

yes both units would have temp control. So when people say that the 70 watter burned everything that's because it was a set temp that was too high? So a 50 watt and an 85 watt set at the same temp will still do the same job, right? Both would have the same temp range. Only the 85watt will keep...

    Soldering iron 50w vs 85w

Looking at purchasing a Weller soldering iron. I was comparing the WESD51 and the WD1001. Aside from the obvious price difference I wanted to know if the 85watt is total overkill for cable making. The only reason I would guess would be for large contacts. But then wouldn't the 50watt be fine? I...

    16 vs. 24 bit

ok - so if I'm only listening to music then a DAC @ 44/16bit is fine and I'm not missing anything that a 96/24bit could provide?

    16 vs. 24 bit

ok - so are all CD's 16 bit? So if I'm looking at a DAC that is only 16 bit and want to listen to a DVD movie via phones from the digital out to the DAC to the amp then I have no sound because the DAC can't decode 24 bit, right? If this is true then why are there so many non 24bit DACs out...

    Help with itunes and ipod??

I believe that the data you mentioned are located in 2 files. Maybe only in 1 but I've always copied these together. They are per login and can be found here: C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Library.itl and C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\My...

    16 vs. 24 bit

So how do I know if my AAC files are 16 or 24 bit? I understand that the Ipod only plays 16 bit but iTunes is capable of playing 24 bit. So if I copy to the Ipod and play then they are 16 bit, right? If this is true then the next question is can I set 16/24 when I rip a CD? If so, how? thanks.

Open vs. closed in the workplace

I'm not going to be blasting the volume - have to get work done too - so for moderate to moderate/low volumes which open cans bleed the least?

Open vs. closed in the workplace

Right - I don't want people having to tap me on the shoulder to get my attention. Do the closed isolate THAT much that I wouldn't hear the phone?? Do the Senn HD595/580/600's leak alot??

Open vs. closed in the workplace

Still trying to figure out which cans to get for the workplace. The question is do you think that the open style will bleed too much to disturb others in the area? I'm in cube-ville and don't want to "wake" anyone up!! So at moderate volume will you hear the bleed from say 5 feet away?... 10...

thanks - isn't the AV710 a PCI card? I have a laptop so a PCMCIA is the only way. So is 3x the space worth the difference from ACC 320/44 to apple lossless? Sound quality wise is greater than 320kbps the point of diminishing return?

So should I be looking at something like the K601/701 instead for rock/pop? Is there a chart somewhere that shows good genre-headphone matches?

bluesdaddy - I do wear glasses. Don't the Grados sit on the ear vs. around the ear for the Senns. Isn't this part of the comfort issue?

I didn't consider the Grado's for the comfort issue that I keep hearing about. I would be wearing them at work for extended periods. The Senns look so comfortable. I thought the 580's with an amp would be ok. Even a cable upgrade seems to be a rock improvement. This is partly the reason for the...

Thanks for the info. That makes sense. What about the S/PDIF coax outout?

Thanks for the response. If I went 580 it would definately be amped. As for the IEM, it's hard to say because I never tried them. Hard to find a brick and mortar retailer that specializes in headphones to sample them all. HD280 would be too large for the gym.

    newbie needs help

Do I really need a DAC? If the answer is of course then should I get it integrated into an amp (like maybe an Aria) or should I get the Audigy2 ZS? Also I have a S/PDIF coax output on the docking station of a Dell D800. Is this worth pursuing? If so I haven't seen anything other that the optical...
