Absolute best budget earbuds?
Yes, DAC+AMP. The ps100 600 is over my price range. Oddly enough I found a 150ohm version for just 15$, unless it's a fake. The fact that it shares the housing with the 150$ version seems alarming though, what's the deal with this?- UnknownAX

DAC mod tips?
That looks like some impressive bang for the buck! The AD823 is impressive considering the price, no reason to swap it out. Seems to have some pretty sizeable CLC power supply filtering too, explains the lack of noise. If you had issues with power supply noise I would've suggested polymer...- UnknownAX

Absolute best budget earbuds?
I have a thread in the general section asking for IEM advice but realized earbuds might actually suit my taste better. I'm basically looking for a desktop use replacement for my HD600 which I unfortunately cannot use right now. I'm of course not expecting HD600 sound out of earbuds but something...- UnknownAX

Which amp for Sennheiser HD 600 <= 500 Euros?
What solid state amp are you using now? 150mW should be driving the HD600's to 119dB...- UnknownAX

Which amp for Sennheiser HD 600 <= 500 Euros?
You could just get a Objective2+ODAC with a nice 1/4in headphone jack and RCA DAC outputs for 250€ and be done with it. If you for whatever reason feel the urge to spend even more, the Meier Audio amps mentioned earlier do look like quite sensible designs (I have no personal experience with...- UnknownAX

IEM for desktop use (<100€, HD600 like)
Thanks for all the information! The E50 at 58€ would be a third option which would still fit in my budget nicely. I've read they're a little flatter in response, any reason you recommend the E10 over the E50 / what sort of difference have you perceived between them?- UnknownAX

IEM for desktop use (<100€, HD600 like)
E10 42€ and the Byron 42.6€ ie. no difference. How is the soundstage on these two? And as far-fetched as it sounds, do you think a HD600 listener would find these similar/likeable sound-signature wise?- UnknownAX

IEM for desktop use (<100€, HD600 like)
Thanks! Seems like a really interesting option + a local shop sells them for just 42€ incl. foam tips. Researching these I stumbled upon the Beyerdynamic Byron which also seem like a valid option and maybe a little more refined-sounding. I see you've tried these too (impressive list you have...- UnknownAX

Looking for Sennheiser HD 598 with more bass
I'm listening to the HD600 plugged straight to my mobo right now at 20% volume, which is more than enough volume for me. I have pretty basic audio on my mobo (GA-Z170M-D3H). Actually surprised how good it sounds. I also had the Fidelio X2 at the same time with the HD599 (a local store had...- UnknownAX

Looking for Sennheiser HD 598 with more bass
Haven't listened to the 598 so can't say exactly but reviews seem to confirm it has more bass and somewhat smaller soundstage compared to the 598. You'd want to try them yourself to know the exact difference. Also the thing with the HD600 NEEDING an external amp is totally overblown here. Same...- UnknownAX

Looking for Sennheiser HD 598 with more bass
I had the HD599 for a while and was surprised by their bass to say the least. Having read mostly HD598 reviews I didn't expect it. It's mostly upper bass though and not much subbass since they're open. They were fun for a while but the forward and somewhat unbalanced bass got tiring after a...- UnknownAX

IEM for desktop use (<100€, HD600 like)
Hello, for reasons I will not be able to use my HD600 (or any other headphone) for a while and need to buy a pair of IEMs. My previous experience with IEMs is mainly the KZ ED9, Xiaomi piston 3 and ROCK Zircon which were all < 20€. Now I'm looking for something significantly better at a budget...- UnknownAX

Starving Student PCB's
I'd like to finally build a tube amp to see what it's like and I've got a few general questions about the PCBs and the amp. It'd be truly appreciated if someone could help me out. Until now I've stuck firmly to SS amps. About the PCB: - The dimensions of the board are 76mm x 76mm, is...- UnknownAX

Best type of solder for audio quality
Not implying that what he smelled was lead but sure enough, soldering fumes do contain lead. At 400°C the lead concentration of the air around the tip would theoretically be around 1.9x10^-8 mol/m3. Much of that will bond to the fumes so at worst you could have 4ug of lead in 1 cubic meter of...- UnknownAX

A47 power supply
The power supply you posted will work nicely. You can use 12V regs instead of the 9V ones in the schematic. The psu has a proper ground and is regulated so hum probably shouldn't be an issue.- UnknownAX

A47 power supply
IF your running the amp on AC power only, a real regulated dual supply. It's also the simplest option as you don't have to worry about the rail splitter and buffer setup. (which will never perform as well as a real dual supply, anyway). You could use a dual secondary or center tap transformer...- UnknownAX

CMOY power supplies in UK. Maplin?
You need a AC/DC psu unless your Cmoy has a built in rectification circuit. The PSU's you linked are AC/AC and will fry your Cmoy unless you add a rectifier/regulator board to the PSU. The datasheet of the opa2227 probably says +-18V i.e. a dual supply with +18V/-18V. That means the maximum...- UnknownAX

Strange short circuit in a O2 build
I have noticed the "phenomenon", too. The plug touching the front panel while plugged in won't damage anything. Both the enclosure and the outer part of the plug are wired to gnd of the amp. The spark is most likely caused by the capacitors in the amp getting charged. You can try pulling the ac...- UnknownAX

How to determine the best cable replacement
I don't know exactly what kind of headphones you want to recable but I would pay attention to the thickness, flexibility and durability of the cable. O2 amp imbalanced on my ODAC/O2 setup for IEMs
I have the exact same problem as the OP but with full size headphones. My dac isn't an ODAC,however it's a ES9023 + PCM2706 DAC. Adding a resistor circuit on the output of the DAC obviously lowers the output but I'm looking for a different solution. While looking at the ES9023 datasheet I...- UnknownAX

How to test Grado SR60s to determine if driver, cable, or plug is the problem?
Different multimeters display this differently. My favourite meter displays "1." but my other meters might just show "1", I haven't paid attention to that. Simple question. What does it display when you hold the probes in the air?- UnknownAX

How to test Grado SR60s to determine if driver, cable, or plug is the problem?
Oh snap! There is a difference between "1" / "1.0" and "1." on a multimeters display. 1.0 = 1ohm (common probe/cable resistance on cheap meters) 1. = no conductivity Cutting cables is not necessary in this case, except for desoldering the (broken) driver... I regard to unwinding the drivers...- UnknownAX

How to test Grado SR60s to determine if driver, cable, or plug is the problem?
I've heard that some fluxes can pick up moisture and thus become conductive over time so that might be the cause for flux conductivity in older equipment. Circuits on PCBs are probably much prone to this, though. Decent equipment is usually cleaned throughly, but the chinese hand soldered stuff...- UnknownAX
