    Arlington, VA Meet Thread (04/05/09)

I see some people are itching to post about today's meet so I've made this meet thread for just that purpose. I'll post impressions on stuff in my next post here, since I have work to do and will need some time to write up and organize thoughts. I'm pretty sure there wasn't anyone taking pics so...

    Applying to Transfer to Conservatory

As the title says, I'm now in the process of attempting to transfer to one of the best conservatories in the country. Namely Curtis and Juilliard... and probably Manhattan. Does anyone have any advice, either having gone through this, or know someone that did? Thanks.

    Getting a Float style frame

What's the best (cheapest?) way to obtain a Float style frame? Pretty much something that looks like a crash helmet, with a pair of drivers thrown in. Includes Precide Ergo, Jecklin Float, PMB and the like. Also, would it be easier to just fabricate something like it? How would this be done?

    Looking for Integrated Amp

I realized a T Amp just isn't enough to properly amp my Stax. I was wondering if I could get a decent integrated amp for around $300. Headphone jack and phono stage would be bonuses, but not necessary for the sake of better SQ, and used is fine. Any suggestions?

    Still Looking For... Something... Maybe

My first attempt at finding headphones that could accurately reproduce the sound of stringed instruments (the violin, in particular) led to the purchase of my first high-end circumaural headphone, the AKG K501. Which just so happens to still be the best headphone I have for that purpose, after...

    K-340 Modders: Yet another mod?

I wish Aerius hadn't been banned, because it would be easier to ask the source directly. He swapped resistors on the crossover PCB with different values from from stock with interesting results. Have any of you tried this mod, or will you? I think the crossover PCB on mine has 2 resistors, too...

    K-340 Problem/Question...

I'm relatively new to headphones and completely new to electrostatic drivers. I recently obtained a pair of K-340s and after listening, hear no treble (on either side, so it can't be one dead electret) and lots of echoey and flabby bass. Do you think both electrets are toast or did I get the...

    Classical cans recommendation?

I'm looking for some headphones that are obtainable (used or new) for 200 bucks or less that do classical music justice, specifically opera and solo violin and some orchestral. Other genres like rock are somewhat necessary, but do not take priority over the classical music. I am hoping to get...

Am I going crazy or what?

I seem to be listening to music at a significantly lower volume than when I first joined Headfi a few months ago. Obviously my perceived volume is the same but the actual volume says otherwise. Anyone else can explain why/have the same experience?

    MP3 Player at CompUSA

http://www.compusa.com/products/prod...35142&pfp=cat3 20GB for 100 bucks is obviously good if it's a decent player, but I've never heard of that company name before. Any thoughts/opinions? Methinks getting something from a name brand would be safer but more costly.

    Question about Kramer mod

I read that the Kramer mod to the KSC75 brings out the mids and treble which probably offsets the slightly bloated bass, but would there be any way to only clean up the bass? Obviously, drilling holes only in the outer rims of the grille may clean up the bass but it would also increase its...

Second opinion on buying a new DAP

Yes, this is yet another question about the best DAP to get.. I've read through some of the threads in this forum, and they all seem to say that the iAudio x5(L) is the best one out there. I know I definitely want something with 20 or 30 GB, good support for different types of audio files...
