    Sibilance and Brainwavz B2?

I currently have the Dunu DN-1000 and find them too sibilant. Reading through the massive IEM comparison thread I noticed the Brainwavz B2/Fischer DBA-02. Can anyone comment on how sibilant these are? In particular if someone can compare to the DN-1000 that would be great.

Ultimate Ears UE 900 Discussion and Impressions Thread

Are these a good deal for $265? Or are there better headphones in that price range for around that price?   I'm looking for something that has less sibilance than my Dunu DN-1000's without killing all the detail in the high end.

Creative Sound Blaster new series Z, Zx & ZxR

Hmm, you might be right. In your case the virtual surround would be through SBX Pro Studio, not Dolby Digital/DTS.   However, I still stand by my initial statement that he is wasting money on a DAC with optical input. He gains very little from outputting via optical vs. just using the onboard...

Creative Sound Blaster new series Z, Zx & ZxR

Unless your DAC can decode Dolby Digital/DTS and create virtual surround sound, you won't get surround sound through your SBZ optical out because it simply encodes the surround sound signal and passes it through. The SBZ is effectively removed from the equation (apart from its role as an...

Creative Sound Blaster new series Z, Zx & ZxR

I know this is an audiophile forums, but honestly, you don't need to buy an external DAC/amp.   I also have HE-400's that I use with a Sound Blaster Z for music and games. It sounds great. The SBZ does virtual surround for gaming which actually works pretty well with the HE-400.   The amp on...

    Tom's Hardware Hi-Fi equipment test

Makes sense, you can only be "so good" at converting a digital signal to analog. If a $2 chip can do it without significant distortion, it won't sound worse than a $200 chip.

I'm kind of curious... is there a particular method to use a pre-amp? Or is it kind of just equalizing every frequency?

**Hifiman HE-400 Impressions and Discussion Thread**

I have the HE-400 (looks like rev 2 with white frames). I did the jergpad mod, and while it seems to have helped the treble a bit, I still get too much sibilance for my liking.   Has anyone EQed these down because they hate sibilance as much as I do? I'd be interested in what EQ settings you...

    = Hifiman HE500 & HE400 Jergpad Mod v2.5 =

I would be very interested in a comparison. I think a lot of other people would be as well. From what I've read the Fidelio has been pitched as great jack-of-all-trades type headphones, so I'm interested in seeing how it compares to a modded HE-400.

    = Hifiman HE500 & HE400 Jergpad Mod v2.5 =

Thanks for the great explanation. I'm actually thinking now that I don't want to the vent mod - I'm trying to get rid of sibilance and don't want to boost the treble with the more V-shaped response. I also don't want to detract from the mid-range.

Also, I am wondering if this mod makes the HE-400 superior to the Fidelio X1

I'm a little new to the audiophile scene... could you describe what I might hear differently with the back vent mod and without? I'm not sure what "sub-bass extension" is...

    Sony MDR-MA900 VS HiFiman HE-400

Ok, this might seem like an odd comparison, but I'm curious if anyone has tested both of these headphones.   My impression from reading reviews is that the Sony MDR-MA900 is one of the best and most well-rounded headsets available at the $200-$250 price point. However, I have noticed sales...

Skullcandy PLYR 1 vs Logitech G930

I never got the chance to try out the G930, but I got a PLYR 1 based on the Head Fi summer buying guide. The sound is fantastic, just make sure you can output audio over optical to the base. The USB is only for charging/mic. But the sound is amazing.

Turtle Beach PX5 and Skullcandy PLYR 1 comparison

I just had the opportunity to do a quick comparison between the wireless Turtle Beach PX5 and Skullcandy PLYR 1 headsets. These are both gaming-oriented headsets. The PX5 is being phased out at this point but runs at $200-$250 new, while the PLYR 1 is newly released and goes for $180.   Design...

    SoundCard/DAC/Amp for the Swans M10?

Quote:   I love my M10's. I don't actually have them hooked up to my PC, they are being used with my TV. I've always had a sound card with my current PC (an X-Fi XtremeGamer before my Z), so I can't speak to how it compares with my onboard audio.   However, a Xonar DX or Sound Blaster...

Skullcandy PLYR 1 vs Logitech G930

Anyone have a chance to test out both of these? I've heard good things about both. The G930 is quite a bit cheaper currently, but if the PLYR 1 is better I'd spend money on that one instead. Primary use is gaming, with occasional music listening.

    SoundCard/DAC/Amp for the Swans M10?

I have the Swans M10, so I can speak a little from experience.   There is already an amp built into the speakers, so you don't need one. Generally you only need a separate amp if you are driving large headphones, or if you are buying standalone speakers. The Swans M10 is a complete 2.1...

I am thinking of buying the Skullcandy PLYR 1 headset, primarily for gaming on my PC: http://www.skullcandy.com/plyr-1   This headset supports a digital optical input using a Toslink cable. It also supports decoding 7.1 Dolby Digital.   I also have a 2.1 speaker system that connects...

    2.1 Speakers for ~$100

I'm looking for good 2.1 speakers on a budget of $100ish. I can pick up some used but good condition Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 speakers (with the older, better sub that has the on/off switch) for around ~$80, which is what I'm leaning towards. I've also heard Swans M10 are very good, but those will...
