Audeze Penrose X and Penrose
Unfortunately I decided to refund due the headphones potentially aggravating my tinnitus. I can't say for sure that was the cause, but I don't want to risk it. Kudos to @Audeze for stellar customer support. Looks like they're also quickly addressing issues people are having with the headphones...- ex0du5

I think the clamp on the headphones is aggravating my tinnitus. :( Either that or the low distortion is causing me to use higher than normal headphone volume (though I've never even gone past 4/10 volume through Bluetooth).- ex0du5

I can confirm that you can easily stretch out the headband by hand to reduce the clamp. I stretched it out pretty heavily for around 20 seconds and it feels much better now. Pads could be a tad softer, but the super strong clamp is gone. That being said, my headset is being RMA'd for imbalance...- ex0du5

Is the wooshing getting worse for anyone? I don't know if I'm just getting really attuned to it, but I hear it everywhere now. Any silent space around notes is just whshshsh. Sounds like I'm biking with earbuds on and am hearing the wind vibrate my eardrums. It feels quite loud now.- ex0du5

Nope there's not enough power there. It takes a fair bit of CPU power since it's essentially calculating all of the possible outcomes 2 frames ahead of time and choosing the correct one based on the input received.- ex0du5

You’re likely noticing input lag inherent to the game rather the display itself. Even on a CRT input lag was not zero. SNES games, for example, have 2 frames (32 ms) of input lag. Interestingly, it’s actually possible to get faster than SNES on CRT response times with a fast display and an...- ex0du5

Good call. I set mono using iOS accessibility. Yeah it's ever so slightly left. Like an inch to the left in the inside of my head. And again, swapping the headphones around 180 degrees results in the imbalance being on the other side, so I don't think it's my ears. If this wasn't an audiophile...- ex0du5

I mean that could be the case, but I've never experienced this with any other headphones. Are planars just more likely to exhibit this for some reason? I should mention that the imbalance is very slight. But it's enough to shift the sound left maybe an inch to the left within my head, which...- ex0du5

Hmmm yeah imbalance is still there, so maybe it's not the earcups. Could just be because I only hear higher frequencies without the earcups. Maybe a frequency response imbalance between the two drivers?- ex0du5

Okay that's odd. I removed the earcups and tried them and I can't perceive any imbalance at all. But taking the earcups off made me realize just how much the earcups themselves contribute to the sound itself, as the headphones sound dramatically different with them off. And I realized that when...- ex0du5

I tested through aux where other headphones are perfectly balanced, as well as through my PS5 and over Bluetooth on my iPhone. The thing is though, since these are internally amped, maybe it can just be addressed by adjusting the amp? Though I don't think a balance adjustment is available...- ex0du5

Yep, there's an imbalance in the volume levels of my drivers. It's obvious by clicking the input switch button "bluetooth", "aux", "wireless". Comes out stronger in the left earcup. If I switch the headset around, it's then stronger on my right ear, so it's the drivers. It became obvious to me...- ex0du5

Alright I have another issue. I need to compare with aux and on the PS5 to see if it affects everything, but the audio is left-shifted on Bluetooth. Things that should be centered sound like they're coming from the left slightly. I thought my right ear was a bit blocked so I turned the...- ex0du5

Two feature requests: 1) Let us turn the announcer voice off or at least lower it with the volume of the headphones. I can't even use these at night in bed because the "POWER OFF" will just wake up my girlfriend when I want to turn them off. 2) We need some form of battery level indication.- ex0du5

Oh man, Rush - Tom Sawyer is a great showpiece for these. Neil Pert is just coming to life with the planar drivers. The way the synth envelops you is great. The only thing I'm noticing for music is that if you angle the cups towards your head, the soundstage feels more pleasent and slightly...- ex0du5

I would say no. If you're looking at using them 8 hours straight, I'd go comfort first over sound quality. My Hyper X Cloud are supremely comfortable, and I can wear them all day. The Penrose aren't terrible, but the clamp and top band do exert some noticeable pressure that it starts to bother...- ex0du5

If anyone wants to replicate the wish, just sit in a quiet place, turn the headset volume all the way down, and then bring it up just one notch so it’s barely audible. The whoosh will be very prevalent and it’ll be just about all you hear.- ex0du5

I may go on record and say these have my favorite sound signature of any headphone I've used. Not as airy as my AKG K701, but damn they're just solid with any genre of music. This is my first experience with planars. I guess I just really like planars.- ex0du5

Outside of the woosh and a very slightly noticeable noise floor (pretty normal for wireless cans), the sound is sublime. The mids are obviously great, and the highs are detailed without being fatiguing. But what really impresses me is the bass. I expected a lack of bass, but I really can't say...- ex0du5

Well for what it's worth the headset works better for me on PS5 than on PC, lol. My connection range is much further on PS5. Probably a noisy USB 3 bus on my PC.- ex0du5
