Yea been to Selfridges, as well as Shasonic, and I'm looking for a place where I can try out Beyerdynamics now. If someone knows a place, that would be amazing. 

The AKG 550s are enormous. In fact, I just couldn't get a good fit without squashing the thing to my ears. They are a fiddle. You want LARGE cans though, so they seem like a better experience for you. 

I've had the pleasure of trying the Pro 900. They are amazingly fun, but were a bit tiring for me. For hours of gaming, I'd imagine the velour pads and the more laid-back presentation of the Beyer sound would suit us. I heard the pro 900 in Selfridges the other day and REALLY liked their sound. However, I did find it too be too much for a long-term listen. How much more laid-back would you describe the DT-770? And would you say that it sounds dull compared to the Ultrasones?
