~$400 iem (pfe112 upgrade)
I havent heard any of the IEM's you've listed, but i own the Heir 4.ai's and at bang on $400 i think they're pretty damn competitive with the westones and shures. There's a fair few comparison's between IEM's at this price, this would propbably be the next logical...- Meddle

Loudspeakers vs headphones
Quote: Definitely agree with this, at comparable prices, headphones simply give so much more detail and accuracy across the board. I think this also has to do with room dynamics, headphones exist in almost a vacuum so to say.- Meddle

Loudspeakers vs headphones
I once thought all I would ever need were headphones, as all the speakers I listened to that beat them out cost a lot more than a comparable pair of 'cans. That was until I heard a pair of Magnepan MMG's, which, at a comparative price, absolutely blew every headphone I'd heard out of the water...- Meddle

Travel Case for Fostex T50rp (Mad Dogs)
Hi, I was in the market for a pair of portable headphones, and i am getting a pair of Mad Dogs by Mr. Speakers. My only problem with my portable setup now is that i have no way of carrying/transporting the phones safely in a backpack, so i have decided to purchase a hard case. So far i am...- Meddle

NEWS: Beats in a lawsuit with Yamaha
They're only suing for $75,000 though, so I don't think profit is a major motivation.- Meddle

NEWS: Beats in a lawsuit with Yamaha
I do think that Beats will have a strong case here, possible with the help of the Apple v Samsung precedent if they find it relevant. According this site: http://www.complex.com/music/2013/02/dr-dre-and-beats-electronics-are-suing-yamaha-for-copying-their-headphone-design, they are only suing...- Meddle

You know you're an audiophile when...
When your friend wants to get you around to check out his 325i, and when you go over you're disappointed that it's a BMW not a pair of Grado's.- Meddle

Black Cube Linear for He-500?
Huh, thats quite interesting. I'll look into this issue for sure, but i am put off by, may just grad a Schiit Asgard instead. Does anybody have any comparisons between the two, with the fact that i can get the BCL at 1/2 the price of the Asgard?- Meddle

Black Cube Linear for He-500?
So I found an extremely good deal on the Lehmann BCL and I am now seriously considering this amp. I plan on purchasing the HE-500's next year and I am wondering if this will be a good combination. My source is a Rega RP1 with an Ortofon OM5e cartridge running through a Cambridge Audio Azure...- Meddle

THE DIY HEADPHONE STAND THREAD
Some nice looking stands on here (D2000)... Anyway, here's my contribution: Inspired by Bonthouse's brilliant stand. I really liked the design, just had to make one. As a side note, would anyone be interested in a woodwork-fi thread in the gear-fi...- Meddle

Long time lurker looking for a set of good over ear headphones...
Don't even consider the 5x8's then :p they leak a lot of sound. Not to sure about the 770, haven't heard them, but the thread twinqy mentioned has some great comparisons.- Meddle

Long time lurker looking for a set of good over ear headphones...
You probably wont need an amp with the 80ohm dt880 or the hd 5x8's, though it would help a little bit (more control of the bass on the 5x8's, cant talk for the 880 with an amp). The 598's have a slightly wider soundstage than the 558's, greater treble refinement and a little more bass...- Meddle

Long time lurker looking for a set of good over ear headphones...
If you want them to be portable, then you can count out the 558's for sure. That said, they are a very good 'phone for home use and work reasonably well for gaming. With the tape mod (easy to do: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PvQ8PzBrHXE) they gain a little bass impact which would be good for...- Meddle
