Any R/C Airplane/Car fanatics on Head-Fi?
I worked on an autonomous helicopter project for engineering senior design last year. We used a large custom RC helicopter for the airframe, though I'm not sure if I will stick with the hobby, as RC helis are relatively expensive. Furthermore, I now get to play with real ones every day working...- michaelconnor

An Amp For The AV-710?
Hey Comet, Yeah, it's a settings thing. The ChaintechAV-710 is all about the black port, right next to the optical out. It says 'rear channel' but this port connects to the hi-rez 24bit, 192kHz DAC. With the proper drivers (I use the Envy24HF 5.12.01.3645 driver), you can enable the high sample...- michaelconnor

Is it worth it to spend a lot on an optical cable?
I don't think that signal degradation is a very big issue with optical, and since I can't hear any difference, I have no opinion concerning the supposed virtues of different optical mediums. The most important factor in optical cable selection should really be the build quality. If the cable...- michaelconnor

Bear eats Monkey in front of horrified Zoo visitors
Agreed, the bear shouldn't have ripped the monkey to pieces in front of the children. There is a very simple solution that would have prevented such primitive carnage. ...and it would all have been over before anyone realized what happened.- michaelconnor

Should I apply to work for Bose??
Wow. I'd surely call this an overwhelming response. I suppose this means you guys wouldn't tar-and-feather me if I were to switch over to the dark side. Well, I'm gonna go for it, and I'll be sure to let you all know if things go well. Thanks for the support, Head-Fi! Quote...- michaelconnor

UN****ING BELIEVABLE EBAY
I am also a closet sniper. I usually leave about 30-40 seconds for others to react, but nonetheless it's the last minute, and I'm denying less-interested bidders the chance to rebid. It's a 2-way street however, as I've had my own auctions sniped at the last second for much cheaper than usual...- michaelconnor

Breadboards: good or bad? (crossfeed project)
You will usually be fine building most any low-power circuit on a BB. However, problems arise when a sensitive design is tweaked on a BB, and then transferred right to perf-board. BB's have some funky capacitive properties that will slightly alter analog designs. To avoid problems, I just make...- michaelconnor

Vintage Components - Worth the investment?
From what I understand, the golden age of analog amplification and loudspeaker design was some time in the 60's-70's. Since then, some newer materials and subtle design approaches have become popular, but there hasn't been anything exceptionally groundbreaking in a while. My vintage stacked...- michaelconnor

So Im going to teach myself guitar, anyone play here?
I switched to guitar after seven years of trumpet. The trumpet has its place when accompanying others, however it is very fatiguing and you can't sing along while you play. Guitar, although cliched, is simply much more fun.- michaelconnor

What is the Modern Face of Horror?
The photo is rather inane, but within the greater context of what was to follow, it strikes a much more insidious tone. This reference may be a somewhat obscure, but to those who know, this photograph is undoubtedly horrid.- michaelconnor
