Quote: Thank you for your reply, hodgjy. It seems whenever I get close to deciding on an amp after researching on this forum some one throws negative reasoning into the mix. I have pretty much narrowed my search down to the Asgard and the Matrix M Stage at this point. You may have just sold...- haguy

Schiit Owners Unite
I'm considering buying an Asgard to hook up between my cdp (Onkyo C-7030) and my hp's (HD-598 and SR-60i) using stock cables. Would I be happy with this setup or should I be considering something else? Does the Asgard compliment the HD-598's wide soundstage? Any advice would be much appreciated...- haguy

Sennheiser HD 598 Impressions Thread
This thread is the reason I happily own a pair of HD-598's today and now I am seeking advice on an appropriate amp to connect to my cdp. I won't be using the amp with a computer or a portable device. I've been considering a few amps such as the Matrix M Stage, Schiit Asgard, etc. but, for...- haguy

Calling All "Vintage" Integrated/Receiver Owners
Quote: Thank you for taking the time to explain this to me. The model receiver (HR-752) that I've been considering was manufactured for only a short time ('88-'91 I believe). I would really prefer a receiver over a dedicated hp amp to use with my hp's. I suppose I should consider a 70's...- haguy

Calling All "Vintage" Integrated/Receiver Owners
Quote: Thank you for the response, wotts. The Carver manual states the following regarding the hp jack: " HP impedance may be from a few ohms to several thousand ohms, although output level may vary depending on impedance. HP jack is driven by a separate internal amp designed to provide the...- haguy

Calling All "Vintage" Integrated/Receiver Owners
Can anyone tell me if Carver receivers, specifically HR-722 and HR-752, work well or at all with hp's? I'm looking for a receiver to use with a cdp and my SR-60i's and HD-598's. I've searched the on-line manuals and found some generic impedance info which was of little help. Are the Carver...- haguy

Widest Soundstage?
Quote: Does the "older recordings" portion of your statement apply to the HD598's, as well? I've been considering buying the HD598's because I understand the soundstage is above average. I listen to a lot of the older rock, pop, r&b '50's-'60's music and was wondering if maybe I'm...- haguy

Sennheiser HD 598 Impressions Thread
Quote: I'm so old school with this stuff I find myself getting hopelessly lost trying to follow today's jargon concerning it all. I just want to play and enjoy my music on a component system. As for the music itself I listen mostly to 50's, 60's, and 70's rock, r&b, pop and country reissues...- haguy

Sennheiser HD 598 Impressions Thread
Quote: Most of what I have read concerning these hp's has led me to believe they are, as you say, good from the word go. Sennheiser HD 598 Impressions Thread
Quote: Is recableing really necessary with these 598's? I'm currently leaning towards buying a pair of these cans but if I have to recable them so they will sound good I will look elsewhere as I am completely inept when it comes to tinkering. I've seen other posters mentioning recableing to...- haguy

Need help in choosing hp for 80w/ch micro component system $300 or less
Quote: I finally figured out how to respond using the quote tab. I told you I was a bonehead. I've done some more searching and am wondering if the Sony stereo receiver str-dh130 and the Onkyo cd player c-7030 might be a decent match for the hd598's? The two non-hp items total less than...- haguy
