Pioneer HRM-7 Studio Monitor Headphones Discussion
I've owned the 553 and enjoyed them. They ended breaking in multiple ways and had to scrap them. Was looking at hrm7, the dt770 250ohm, 553 mkii and the t40rp mk3. My biggest issue with 553 was that the highs sounded sightly veiled. They had decent detail but those details sounded sightly soft...- audiophizile

Recommendations for mid level/step up closed back
I know the ether c is a technical step up but does anyone know where to try to get a used alpha dog or how much they go for? I'd assume less than the ethers and would like to hear them.- audiophizile

I'm far from a bass head. Most things with an eq I end up lowering the bottom end a bit but I do like it to be dynamic.- audiophizile

Recommendations for mid level/step up closed back
Hello! I am looking at a potential upgrade. I have had the akg k7xx, k553, senn hd598cs, takstar 82 pro, and the hm5. Looking anywhere from $200-600, if used no more than 400. I had the k553 and k7xx side by side and with a pad mod liked the 553 more than the k7xx. The 553 headband is not...- audiophizile

Earbuds Round-Up
Was looking at the monk plus. Hard to not buy something so hyped for $10 on Amazon. Is there anything a step up from this in the $25-50 range? I was mainly looking at iems at first but think these may be a better fit for me. I posted this in the iem thread but applies here: Sound preference is...- audiophizile

CHIFI LOVE Thread-A never ending IEM-Heaphones-DAP-Dongles Sound Value Quest
I think after reading through the list I'm even more confused about where I should go. I'm looking in the $25-75 range. Sound preference is clarity, detail, separation above all. Prefer speed in the low end. Don't hate a small midbass kick (normie). Don't really like OVERLY dark and/or warm as...- audiophizile

Suggestions/opinions please
I unfortunately broke my AKG K553 and am looking for a replacement set. I liked the k553 quite a bit with some pad adjustment but want to know if there is better for near equal $. The main cans I am looking at (besides the k553 again) are the t40rp mk3, ath-a990z or 550z, hd 569 or hd 598 CS...- audiophizile

How-to AKG K553 Pro Detachable Cable Mod (and for K550 and K551) (lot of images)
Thanks to your guide I now have a detachable cable! I had other reasons to do this (cat really likes to chew cables, ugh) but it turned out great and I now have a much more manageable 4ft cable. Thanks a ton!- audiophizile

I use a modmic as well. Definitely handy. I have powered monitors that have been sitting unused for almost 2 years when I built a new computer. May have to use the lineout and get them hooked up again. Does pressing the volume knob do anything? Mine seems to feel like a button. That may switch...- audiophizile

Sucks you had to go through so much! Now that it's up and running in sure you'll enjoy it. As I've stated before in this thread, I only use the eq and then just switch between stereo and 7.1 for music/gaming. I found the surround and other "effects" decreased quality and did not help positional...- audiophizile

No battery, bluetooth or built-in mic. Same dac and amp. G5 has much better software though. The g5 also does not come with a stand or "rubber bands" (which appear to be meant for strapping to your phone/portable player). The base of both is a soft grippy rubber so the stand is not really...- audiophizile

I was in your same boat and I have 0 complaints with the g5 thus far. I tested out a magni amp and this side by side and the magni just didn't pair well with my headphones. I don't use the built in surround "effect" or any other effects besides a mild eq to suit my prefernce/headphones but I do...- audiophizile

Are you guys referring to the surround mode in the acoustic engine tab? I only tested that once and found it awful but guess could test it again if it's improved. I just use 7.1 mode with mild eq and everything else off. Love the way it sounds in games. Music I switch back to stereo.- audiophizile

[Review] NVX XPT100, A direct Brainwavz HM5 competitor
Does anyone here know how these compare to the akg k553? I know its around double the price most of the time but would be very interested in a direct comparison. Im in the market for an open sounding closed can and Alpha Dogs aren't in my budget right now.- audiophizile

The AKG K7XX Massdrop First Edition Thread
Thanks the input everybody. I ordered a magni 2 and am going to grab a g5 from a local store tomorrow and do a side by side in both music and games. Music using the direct option of the g5 which I've read bypasses all the processing. I will also test using the magni through the my MB and the g5...- audiophizile

Would getting this be better than getting a slightly lower end amp and dac? I only have my onboard audio(alc898) and a really old mixamp that I'm using through optical(in stereo not DH) to power my hm5s. Will the alc898 dac sound bad?- audiophizile

The AKG K7XX Massdrop First Edition Thread
I have these on their way to my house from the latest drop and was wondering if anyone drives these with a creative g5 or e5 and how it sounds. My use will be 65-70% gaming, the rest music from 320 to flac on a desktop pc. Any help or other suggestions would be greatly appreciated! I have a...- audiophizile
