Amps that can drive the HiFiMan HE-6 planar headphones
My bad then. Its really 80 watts into 8 ohms. Didn't pay enough attention to my previous post. So it really is 12.8 watts into 50 ohms. The amp looks like a beast, not your normal class ab amp.- randytsuch

Amps that can drive the HiFiMan HE-6 planar headphones
I did a quick spreadsheet to calculate, but maybe I screwed up? Still, 6.4 W into the he6 is plenty. EDIT: I double checked, and pretty sure its 12.8W at 50 ohms. This is assuming that voltage will drive the wattage at 50 ohms and not current. 80 watts at 8 ohms gave a voltage of 25.3, and...- randytsuch

Amps that can drive the HiFiMan HE-6 planar headphones
I was curious about the X350.5. Spec sheets says it leaves class a at 80 w, much higher than normal for a class ab amp. 40w into 8 ohms is about 13 watts into 50 ohms, so it should be in class a all the time with a he6.- randytsuch

ANK EL84 Amp
Output transformers say they are 50 ohm output, which would make sense for headphones. Might not work well for 4 or 8 ohm tweeters. Also, for that money, you would think they would drill the chassis. But after I saw who ANK was, knew why it was so much. Randy- randytsuch

Amps that can drive the HiFiMan HE-6 planar headphones
I built a ACA a while ago, and use it for my HE6 SE's. Off the speaker taps. Sounds great to me. I do plan to upgrade, to a bigger, better Pass Class A amp. Every once in a while, used ACA's come up for sale at diyaudio. Randy- randytsuch

Amps that can drive the HiFiMan HE-6 planar headphones
Thanks, I'll look into the Babelfish J. Did look at other Zen Mod's designs. He is selling ludef kits, but not many out there so wanted to go with a something safer. Does the Babel J fit in the diyaudio 4U chassis? I may end up building more than one amp, reusing the chassis and hopefully the...- randytsuch

Amps that can drive the HiFiMan HE-6 planar headphones
I'd build a J2, but you can't find any 2SK3497's to build it with. The CFA3 is an interesting idea, but I'm pretty set on a Pass class A clone at this point.- randytsuch

Amps that can drive the HiFiMan HE-6 planar headphones
I've been thinking about building an amp for my HE6SE's, a diy clone version of a Pass class A amp. Seems like the Aleph J2 is well regarded, but I don't think I can build one. Has some obsolete parts that seems like Pass has a stockpile of, and no where else to be found. Of the other...- randytsuch

Massdrop x Eddie Current ZDT Jr. impressions thread
You need to remove the transformer covers, and put the shield directly around each transformer. I took some pics at the time, but have deleted them so have nothing to show you. You need to remove the bottom cover to get at the screws that hold the covers in place. I had a mistake in my...- randytsuch

Massdrop x Eddie Current ZDT Jr. impressions thread
I had a first batch drop unit with a small amount of hum that I sold. Before selling, I wrapped the transformers with magnetic shielding material, basically eliminated the hum. I only heard hum with sensitive cans, normal cans were fine, but fixed it anyway. The shield material was given to me...- randytsuch

DIY tube/valve adapters
Quick look at the datasheets. 12SN7 uses .3A @ 12.6V for heaters 12AU7 uses .15A @ 12.6V for heaters. If circuit is designed for the AU's, it might have a problem with the extra current, but then again it might be fine. It depends on the heater circuit design. If you're going the other way...- randytsuch

DIY tube/valve adapters
You really need to look at what specific tubes you want to swap. Its more than pinouts, there is heater voltage and current to worry about, as well as a bunch of other parameters from the datasheet. Max voltages, gm (transconductance), etc. I'm far from a tube expert, know just enough to be...- randytsuch

FiiO UTWS1 is available now-Giving your earphones a new voice!
I read that post a long time ago. Someone at Fiio (through Aliexpress) did try to help me for a while, but then they just stopped talking to me, so I gave up. I also emailed a request to support when this first came up, but I never heard back from them. But I'll try again. I received them just...- randytsuch

FiiO UTWS1 is available now-Giving your earphones a new voice!
I contacted Fiio about this a while back, they were basically worthless. Same with Aliexpress, I bought them from Fiio's aliexpress store, so I will no longer buy from either one.- randytsuch

10 meters? I got a lemon, mine is only a few feet, if lucky. And really only usable if I'm sitting and working, can't use while walking.- randytsuch

Going fully Wireless IEMs. Too soon? Or are we there yet?
I guess some people were able to get the NOACC thing to work, I tried and it did nothing for me. I should also add my macro is based on something I saw at xda, but I changed it because I couldn't figure out how he did the scrolling.- randytsuch

Going fully Wireless IEMs. Too soon? Or are we there yet?
So I'm pretty sure this will get lost in this long thread, but I'll post it anyway, maybe a few people will see it and use it. I found a way to make a macro on my android phone to set my UTWS1's to aptX whenever they connect. So you don't have to go into the developer options and set it...- randytsuch

The TWS + Neckband + BT Cable Adapter Thread
I'm still disappointed in the bluetooth connectivity of my UTWS1's. I got a new (to me) phone, LG V20. Really nice sounding phone. Bluetooth with it is better, sounds good if I sit at my desk and listen. Can't walk with them, still get lots of dropouts if I"m walking, but at least now I can...- randytsuch

[ongoing] True Wireless project
So I bought the Morphie case (cheap on ebay) and the 3 pack of NetDot microUSB magnetic adapters. Its really nice to have a battery case for my BT20's, and the mag adapters make it much easier to charge them. Now need some more mag adapters for my UTWS1's. So buy another 3 pack or move them...- randytsuch

LG V20 Sound Quality
I've been playing with the L20 H910 (ATT unlocked) phone I bought from epay. Bought an open box one, but is was in a sealed box, and as far as I can tell it's brand new. :relaxed: Using as a DAP, so now sim, I just ignore the missing sim message and it works fine. Battery has been draining...- randytsuch
