How to tell if headphones are blown?

Quote: Welp, I discovered the problem. Turns out, I'm an idiot. It was a bent audio extension cable the whole time. I tried it on a bunch of different sources, just not with different cables.   When I plugged straight in they sounded good as new. Now I just need a new cable.

How to tell if headphones are blown?

Quote: Do you have any idea what I did wrong? I really don't think I ever turned the volume up past a good hearing level. I can't figure out why I would have blown them. Im listening out of a yamaha HTR 5830 receiver and I've never had the volume above -15db.

How to tell if headphones are blown?

Quote: i had them hooked up an receiver. This "thud" is exactly what I am hearing. Kinda of pffft, pffft, instead of a boom. I guess I'll go ahead and contact Berer and see about a replacement if possible.

How to tell if headphones are blown?

I put on my DT 990's when I got home tonight and they sound horrible all of a sudden. I have no idea what's wrong. I checked my receiver, sounds card, etc, everything appears to be functioning normally. I was EQ'ing my headphones last night at some pretty high volumes and got the bass up way too...

    Piercing highs with DT 990's

Quote: I've tried them with three different sources with the same results. I lent them to my buddy who is a producer and mixes studio recordings and he said the treble frequencies were off. He showed me how to eq them down, and it does sound much better, but I'm going to shop around for a...

    Piercing highs with DT 990's

Quote: Yes, I did and still am considering the Senn's. Someone had a pair of 555's on craiglist for $80 and I put a post up comparing to the Berer's and most people recommended the Berer's. I might pick them up and try them if the has them still.

Buying headphones + amp for gaming and music (electronic)

Quote:   I was in your exact situation. I have the Xonar DG sound card. It's good, and the dolby headphone is a neat gimmick, but plain old stereo sounds better out of high end headphones. I ended up getting a cheap receiver of craiglist. Outputs up to 480ohms through headphone out and...

Buying headphones + amp for gaming and music (electronic)

for what it's worth, I just bought the DT 990's 250ohm last week and I am not enjoying them that much. The highs are way to piercing, especially in games and movies. I'm returning tomorrow and now shopping for a replacement.

    Piercing highs with DT 990's

Quote: Bass isn't crucial. I mean, I like bass, but I don't want to to be the first selling point. Overall quality is the most important. No gimmicks, no great at this, terrible at this, Just balance  across all spectrums. I use the phones 4 hours a day, minimum, watching TV, listening to...

    Piercing highs with DT 990's

I bought the Bererdynamic DT 990's 250ohm of Amazon last week and i've been using them a few days.  After using them for a mix of music, movies and games, the one thing that stands out the most is the piercing highs. I've read some reports on this here and there, but nothing that seemed to be as...

Quote:    Headphones are electronics. If you can't trust the new guy on that, ask around a bit. I'm sure everyone else will agree with me. As far as your example to computers, no, there is nothing on the face of the earth that keeps up with microchips. That's Moore's law and a...

Quote:       I see an immediate price drop after it's initial release, and then a slow steady incline in price over two years. What exactly is standard about that? Name me one other form of electronics that doesn't slowly decline in price over time.

good points. I guess I can't blame Senn for a reseller selling as high as they can, especially on a discontinued product.

Why are headphones getting more expensive?

Quote:   I honestly think this is the answer. Until people start writing Denon, Sennheiser and Bererdynamic, etc and saying "I'm not going to pay double for the same headphones you made ten years ago", the trend will only continue. Can you imagine if Intel tried to sell a CPU for...

HD 555 Amazon Price in 2010: $69.99   HD 555  Amazon Price in 2012: $189.95   Granted, I know they were on sale then, but come on Senn, time to drop those prices. Or rather, come on people, time to stop paying $200 for mediocre phones that are almost a decade old.

Question about Senn HD 555 Foam Mod

I'd love to get more info on this. Frankly. I don't want to spend $500 on Sennheiser phones if their company is pulling cheap tactics like this. It just makes me lose faith in them as a higher end company. I can't get a firm answer at all one way or another though. I guess I could just call Senn...
