Rebuilding a realistic SA-100B HELP NEEDED!!

Hello all!   A few months back, I picked up an old SA-100B off of ebay. There was a LOT of static on it. The static is on both channels and does not change with volume level.   I started trying to trouble shoot it, I was working with someone on audiokarma, but he's had to take some time...

Monoprice USB and TOSLINK/SPDIF DACs, $10 and $20 respectively

Monoprice has DACs! No clue about performance, anyone tried them? Here's the USB DAC: http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=103&cp_id=10311&cs_id=1031105&p_id=2881&seq=1&format=2   And the TOSLINK/SPDIF...

    Photo Respawn!

Is anyone else having this problem? When you click a photo, it gets large and full screen, then when you click "Back" to get back to the thread, the photo continuously goes to full screen, making it impossible to get back to the thread. Any thread that opens the pictures full screen does this...

Step up from the Creative Aurvana Live!

Hello! I have a friend that loves their Creative Aurvana Live! but I'm thinking of getting them something as a slight step up. I'm thinking a similar signature, but perhaps a little nicer. The sound of the CAL is pretty great, but what is a little higher up the food chain in a similar...

    Dual Supply Single Switch

I need some help! I did something stupid. I decided to mod my CMoy, eliminating the rail splitter, and since it runs off 2x 9V in series, I'd just use the middle lead as the ground. I made this decision in some haste, and didn't really think it through. I am using one of the switched Alps...

    iTunes Album Art in Foobar

A year ago, I made the switch to listening via Foobar with the Columns UI. I love it for listening, but less so for organizing, so I still use iTunes for that. All of my album art is in iTunes, using the "Get Album Artwork" command. I searched around a bit online and found that album art...

TIP for doing business with Lend Me Ur Ears and other overseas sellers !

Hello all! I recently made a few purchases from lendmeurears.com (great seller, definitely recommend them!)   I am a little ashamed to admit this, but I just figured this out.   They offer prices in USD as well as their native currency, Singapore Dollars. In my haste, I always...

    Not quite music...pucks

I have a silly question. I have always wanted to find an unpressed puck. I assume the only way I'm ever going to track one down is by going to a producer or whatever. Does anyone know of a place I might be able to buy a virgin puck?   THANKS!

Some REALLY old cans! Safar R 2000

I recently picked up some really old headphones online. These have got to be some of the coolest headphones I've seen in a while, mostly because they are so old!   They are labelled Safar R2000.   Here's a picture:   They look a lot like the AKG K10. They use one of the weirdest...

    SMSL SD-793 and SD-1955 DACs

I searched around a bit and cannot seem to find much about this DAC. It seems to be built with nicer components than the Muse Minis, but there really isn't a lot of info around. Here's a listing for it...

    Szekeres

Hey guys, thinking of building a Szekeres current follower for a friend of mine. I have a question, I know that for my Mosfet Max, transistor matching was necessary, is that the case for the Szekeres? It would seem to me like it should be, but I have found no mention of it anywhere. Thanks!

    Looking for sub-$100 wearable cans.

Hello guys, I'm looking for some very wearable headphones for a friend (as in for long periods of time) that won't be fatiguing at all, in the ~$100 price range (or less). I'd like something circumaural, and not completely open. My thought was AKG K240 Studio. But, I haven't bought headphones...

    Millett Hybrid

I recently completed a Millet Mosfet Max and now, I've got the bug. I'm building a Millett Hybrid on some Radio Shack stripboard. I started this thread to document and post some pictures. Since the Millett PCB is no longer available, I thought I'd also post my board lay-outs from DIY Creator. I...

Not-So-Audio Stuff That Has a Myriad of Audio Applications AKA Cheap-O Hodge Podge Solutions!

Hello all! As DIYers, we all have found our fair-share of hodge-podgey work arounds, and cheap ways to do things that companies charge a lot for.   I thought it would be useful to share them. I'm fairly new, so my list of elegant, cheap-o solutions is pretty short.   Sorbothane feet...

Power Supply Schematic - STEPS or TREAD

Hey all, I searched and couldn't seem to find it. I know Tangent removed the schematics for the STEPS and TREAD from his site, but does anyone still have the schematic? I'm trying to build an original Millet and need a power supply. Is there any other that you would recommend over the STEPS or...

    Headphone Amps for Grados

Hello all, I figured that this would have been done to death, but after some pretty extensive searching, I can't seem to find too much, I apologize if I've missed any major threads.   I have a pair of Grado 325is, and I'd really like to pick up a desktop amplifier for them. I'm hoping not...

    Building a Distribution Amplifier

Hello All! I recently built a distribution amplifier for my friend's studio. It wasn't too complicated or anything, but this is my first fairly real build (aside from a CMoy or two), so I thought I'd share some pictures and what not. I have to say, that a lot of people in and around this forum...

    I need help trouble shooting

Hello all, I recently built a distribution amp based on bits and pieces of a number of different designs. It has four outputs. Two sound spectacular, and two have a massive difference in volume between the left and right channels. The left channel is substantially quieter than the right. The...

    Rail Splitter with Multiple OPamps

Hello. I am building a distribution amplifier for a friend. I am planning on using 4 separate Opamps. I am going to be using the TI rail splitter with the 8 pin DIP.   My original plan had been to wire all 4 rail splitters in parallel to my power source (a pair of lantern batteries in...

    Creating a Hybrid Distribution Amplifier

Hello all!   I am working on building a hybrid amp that then outputs to a distribution amp for 4 sets of cans.   I wanted to keep the hybrid amp cheap/simple, so I'm going with the Oatley Electronics preamp/headphone amp.   I've seen that with opamps (via headwize), the distribution...
