Seeking amp recommendations for my scenario (tube preamp)...
Hi all, I hope I'm not being too lazy here by asking before I've done all my research, but my scenario isn't fitting cleanly into a google search, so I'm bringing it here to get some direction and ask a couple questions. I was well into head-fi for a few years and it was instrumental in the...- dwc

Any car audio amps using class-D tech?
Seems like it would be a good fit, as an amp could run cooler and run with less energy. Are any manufacturers building digital switching car audio amps? -Dan edit: i guess the TI chips designed for car audio aren't out yet: http://focus.ti.com/dsp/docs/dspspla...contentId=2475...- dwc

Can I Bi-amp Meadowlark Kestrels?
Does enyone know if I can use a Panny receiver to bi-amp my Kestrel II's? I've read that one requirement is that the negative binding posts are not connected internally to each other. They have to be independent. Anyone tested this? I can test it myself, but I had a bit of a time...- dwc

Remove ferrite from Radio Shack cables?
Anyone have a technique for removing the ferrite beads from the re-issued Radio Shack fusion cables? I'd like to see if I can tell a difference or not. The procedure does _not_ have to be reversible. (i.e. I don't care if the beads are destroyed) I'm just seeking some experience in the matter...- dwc

Recommended External drive?
I'm going to begin ripping all my cd's. Unfortunately due to limited space, I keep my PC under my fold-out desk, and that means spinal contortions everytime I need to load or unload a disc. So I'm looking to get an external drive (usb2 or sata) that has excellent audio extraction. I also...- dwc

Digital vs. Analog cable
How does a coax cable designed to transport digital data differ physically from one designed to carry audio? More/less shielding? Wire pattern/materials/etc? So what is the difference in requirements, and how does that translate to differences in design? Thanks, Dan (currently...- dwc

need help understanding balanced-out impedance matching effect on performance
Background: Can't afford a DAC-1, but I wanted an external DAC. I read great things sbout the Behringer DEQ2496, much of which revolved around it's killer eq possibilities. I've ordered a DEQ. Read great things about the performance of the balanced xlr-out (with pin3- ground lifted)...- dwc

cd-audio via spdif out: decent source?
I'm in the early stages of understanding, so bear with me... I'm planning to buy an external DAC[1] to use with my PC. Right now I am using an asus mobo (a7n8xdeluxe) with Nvidia N-Force 2 chipset, using the sound on the motherboard. I'd like to know if using the digital-out for cd listening...- dwc
