Balanced/unbalanced soundcard for amp testing
Hi Rob, I posted here because the topic seemed to me more related to DIY than to computer hardware. I was probably wrong... Thanks, Massimo- antomas

Indiscreet pre amp question.Problems
Quote: Apparently yes, but I guess in a single point... Why did you do that? the original pcb did not use a ground... Sorry Marios, when I quickly looked at the pcb I didn't notice the ground plane... nor the other thread... Massimo (very inattentive reader)- antomas

Indiscreet pre amp question.Problems
Quote: Do you think that placing the transformer near the amp could cause problems? In general, the tranformer should not be very near the amp, especially if the amp is a high-gain low-noise amp like a RIAA preamp. If you use a toroidal transformer (leaking little magnetic flux)...- antomas

Indiscreet pre amp question.Problems
Quote: The transistors (two of them) I had put the wrong way in both channels. Now I turned them around but still no sound. This could explain both channels silent. Quote: Thats wjy i suspect something got burnt. Could this have caused the other transistors that were ok placed...- antomas

Indiscreet pre amp question.Problems
Hi Marios, as you know I didn't build the circuit yet, so I can only provide generic advice. First of all, get a multimeter, possibly including a transistor tester. Quote: I dont get ANY sound at all on both channels? If you don't get sound on both channels, you should firstly check...- antomas

Torroidial Noise
Hi Jeffrey, thanks very much for your kind answer. Quote: The strength of a magnetic field is directly proportional to the current flowing through the wire. Given that basic fact of physics, there's no reason why the rectifiers should produce a stronger magnetic field than the traces...- antomas

Torroidial Noise
Hi Jeffrey, Thanks for the very interesting posts! May I ask a couple of things about the "lost flux" problem? First is about the toroid. Is the flux leakage related to the "exit point", not to the "exiting wires", isn't it? In both cases, would it be useful to twist the wires together...- antomas

A good sounding DIY phono stage ??? Please suggest!
Hi Peranders, Quote: Mario, check the datasheet of LT1115 May I ask what do you think of this schematics as well as of the LT1115 chip? Does the LT1010 really need the cap on the output? Do you think the PS could be a basic one (rectifier and caps) or a more complex PS would be...- antomas

A good sounding DIY phono stage ??? Please suggest!
Hi Marios, there are quite a few phono stage projects on the Tnt site: http://www.tnt-audio.com/clinica/solidstate.html I want to build the InDiscreet, sooner or later so, for the moment, I cannot comment on its sound. RIAA: I'm pretty sure that all the phono stages around conform to...- antomas

Critical parts matching for Gilmore Dynamic amp
Quote: Thanks for the advice, antomas Hope it may be right.... anyway, from some previous posts, it seems that the transistors are not so bad. Maybe the weirdest components to match could be the LEDs. Quote: For the power supply I got some 0.1% Holcos. These are magnetic (the...- antomas

Critical parts matching for Gilmore Dynamic amp
Hi Jupiter, sorry for answering so late. I'm not an EE and I didn't build the amp yet (thanks to the italian posts and customs - grrrr!), but, from my understanding of the circuit, I would match the 2SA1015 with the 2SC1815 of the first stage and then the 2SA1015 with the 2SC1815 of the...- antomas

Yet another Gilmore power supply pcb
Sorry David, I don't have very much to show for the moment, but: I'll use a 4 pole/5-6 toggle rotary switch to switch signal and ground of both channels. One side of the switch will be connected to the (insulated) input rca jacks and the other side to the 50 kOhm Alps Blue. No tape out...- antomas
