Beyerdynamic New XP series, the Unexpected
SB...thank you for your review from your blog. You mention that the XP3 would compete well with the Shure SE215, which is my current IEM of choice. In particular, how would the XP3 compare/contrast with the SE215? Also, is Jaben the only place online where these are available? Is there a US...- mrdon

The Monoprice MP9927 PG 208.. MP8320 (MEP-933)..The $7.11 club..
Quote: As I said a more than a few posts back now, don't waste your time and money. They look, feel, and sound like a $7.11 earphone. On the other hand, the SE215s look, feel, and sound far better than a pair of $99 IEMs. Therefore, I highly suggest that you save up for a new pair of...- mrdon

The Monoprice MP9927 PG 208.. MP8320 (MEP-933)..The $7.11 club..
Since I needed an HDMI cable from Monoprice, I threw in a pair of these in the order just to see if all the hype was well hype or the truth. After a little burn in and listening and adding the Comply tips, my opinion is that you get what you pay for. The 8320 are cheap earphones/IEM's and sound...- mrdon

Seeking for suggestion of IEM around USD$100
It's too bad that you don't want a recommendation for the Shure SE215, as I think you would really like it. I admit the size and design is a bit cumbersome but that trade off is well worth it given the isolation and sound.- mrdon

Valab NOS DAC - subjective listening and modifications
BG, I don't know what version you have but you should have been able to loosen all 4 screws on the back (and 2 on the front) and slide the pcb out without an issue. So what happened? I wouldn't recommend repeating this "terrorist rookie school homework" again. You could have ruined a...- mrdon

Has anyone used the HiFace M2Tech with their VALAB DAC? What were the results? I have been reading lots of great things about this device and wonder how this improves the VALAB's already low jitter (with DIR9001 mod) response. Concerning the BG NX HQ in the output stage...I used them, not in...- mrdon

Valab NOS DAC - subjective listening and modifications
Guys I am having an issue with adjusting the output Voltage. The best I can do is about 1.5 - 1.6 VAC, but according to all reports the output should be 2.0-2.1 when playing a 1kHz 0DB sine wave. I have replaced the VR500R thinking it was defective - got same results. I went from 390R IV to...- mrdon

Given inspiration from Pat and further assistance from rhodes54 and his schematic here, I have managed to find property on my 1st Gen PCB for new Wima input caps and the Lundahl LL1572 digital input tranny. With a little benderoo action, I was able to make these connections cleanly. The two...- mrdon

So you and Pat used the 1574. Now, I remember reading back what seems like a few hundred pages back that the suggested model is actually the Lundahl 1572 and not the 1574. Is that correct or does it really matter? So let just say I invest in the 1572, which is 110:110, I attach it to the RCA...- mrdon
