Below the first hash mark with both the UM2 and the E500. I just got my amp back from getting the M mod, and Ray checked the gain at that time, so my amp is working as it should.

My Hornet is from the first batch -- serial number 9040 -- and had a silver knob. I sent it in for the M mod and some other adjustments and it came back with a gold knob. I actually preferred silver.

The described process sounds like a very cumbersome way of getting to results similar to those that MP3Gain and AACGain allow you to very easily reach, and without messing with your tags. MP3Gain and AACGain are also completely reversible. Of course your files have to be in MP3 or AAC format.
