Hey, thanks for your reply. Yes, the PS4 has optical – so that would remove one cheap dac from my desk – but the PS5 doesn't and at some point Sony might actually be willing to sell me one :smirk:so it would be nice if it worked with consoles, though it probably should. Shame about the PS issue...

I got this DAC last week as the analog out of my Mac was acting up in a maddening way – and it was high time I upgraded the desktop system again anyhow. Using it in combo with my Headroom Cosmic and HD600. I will soon cross-check with my trusty AQVOX as I feel that it might be a little lacking...

I also really like the output from my N9 although I feel my E7 to be superior. The N9 also has terrific stereo-recording capabilities, great for live music. I am actually considering to pick up better portable phones again although the shortness of my commute does not justify them.  

If you do a search you should find tons of info on this topic. In short: It's very well worth it to upgrade at least to the OPC cable.

I think the sound of your system would benefit if you put the center speaker on the upper shelf so all speakers are on one level. Heat, weight and vibration come to mind as issues that might be troubling your receiver. Did you try that before?   Speaking of vibration, does the center shake...

I use my HD25-1 at work and by now lugged over my Headroom Cosmic to amp it. I guess I'll add a little external DAC in the while. Isolating, little leakage, quite comfortable... I'd guess I'd get a big Beyer or AKG for ultimate comfort, but the HD25-1 is quite the thing to have.

I tend to wrap my wireless transmitters in that special paper stuff, it helps a lot Who knows? Maybe your wireless card interferes with the output stage of your laptop. Maybe the network cable provides ground and thereby enhances the sound. Maybe you just like the comfort of a cable better...

iVolume employs the MP3Gain algorithm, so it's the same thing but with a nice frontend and perfect iTunes integration. These software solutions are essential if you tend to use shuffle-play a lot, or like making mixed playlists/CDs. No need to worry about the quality.

Well, the optical connection is the easiest and most logical way. Output from the Macbook will be fine, no worries. You can change settings in the "Audio-Midi" preferences (see utilities folder or just hack it into Spotlight). Use wireless if you want to keep your Mac mobile.

Hmm, well, digital volume control? You want to keep iTunes' slider all the way up. What kind of "flat" are we talking about? Take a look to see whether iTunes' Sound Check is engaged. Unless you have replaced it with an MP3gain implementation, that will likely not sound the best.

To be honest, I did not listen to it a lot. It demands a full run and it can also be exhausting at times, yet when the time is there and the mood is right, this is a great, great album.
