    Shellbrook Audio Labs "Mini-Head" Amplifier

Drew Dunn made great sounding headphone amps. This one came in the standard version shown in your pictures and the Signature version which had a few upgraded components. Both are excellent amps. I still have the Mini-Head Signature and regularly switch between it and an RSA Hornet. To tell you...

Is Hifiman HM-801 an overkill if I only have CD quality FLACs???

I should have included a more meaningful reply but I get a kick out of "spec"tators. Anyway, I do own a few components by the same manufacturers: a Hifiman HM601 and a QLSHiFi QA350. So you know what I am comparing to, I've owned an iRiver H140, iPod Classic, iTouch, a Sony MZ-RH1, Sony PCM-M1...

Is Hifiman HM-801 an overkill if I only have CD quality FLACs???

One day you may decide to listen to higher sample rates. It does make a difference. Like Bojamijams, I'm not sure what value you will get from reading comments from people that don't have the equipment or tell you it's no good based on their concept of "specs". Specs don't mean diddley. You have...

Hello Head-Fi,   I would love to take the "Monster Turbine Challenge". My music tastes are varied. I love classical, rock, alternative, electronic, folk, country, etc, etc. (I'm not crazy about rap). My equipment setup is flexible and can be easily configured for my music listening needs...

HM-601 losing the SD card's songs

Thank you Kenm. I was having the same problem. Your solution worked well for me.  Loaded both with flac files and they are recognized like a charm!. BTW - the 601 I just received came with 8gig of internal memory.

Is the Hifiman HM-601 worth getting?

Some of you need to "listen to the music" before you speculate on the music based on "specs". I have the 601 and it's a great, no frills player. The iPod Classic 120, iTouch gen5, Nano don't come close in listening experience. I have used it with Shure SE530's, E5's, Grado 60s, 225s, 325s, Sens...

Looking for a cheap A/D converter

Hi SCompton and Jambo, Thanks for the replies. After thinking it through, I'll just use the A/D converters in my burner and use the signal from my preamp. I still am interested though in finding a cheap portable A/D converter or DIY if one exists. Regards

Looking for a cheap A/D converter

I am looking to digitize my LP recordings. Does anyone know where I might be able to find an inexpensive A/D converter, either a small self contained unit or something in DYI kit form? Basically the most I want really want to deal with is some quick assembly like putting everything in an...

Iriver SlimX 550 Remote - Need Help

Oops, sorry. I just noticed that the remote does not include the adapter cable. Try iRiver support and see if they have any specs on the cable. While you are at it, you might as well ask them if they have an adapter lying around.

Worst case if no one has an adapter for you - the remote is still available through iRiver for about 35 bucks.

Taken for an expensive ride by Shellbrook Audio Labs

I thought I would continue to provide feedback as my experience progresses. Drew finally contacted me concerning my order and profusely apologized for the problem and is working to get me the amplifier. In spite of this, I did a little investigative work. My conclusion at this point in...

Taken for an expensive ride by Shellbrook Audio Labs

Thank you all for your posts. The explaination of my behavior: His amps are really very, very good. In the past, on average, I only had to wait about a month which isn't a problem for me. But with this past transaction, after I got no response from him, I started to poke around this and other...

How to get screwed on a 5G Video iPod?

Hi Yosho, I just went through a PayPal dispute for goods received not as represented by the seller. Ebay owns PayPal. You can only file a claim through PayPal and it's a process that is weighted in favor of the seller because who does PayPal make money from? - the seller. Anyway, if you...

Taken for an expensive ride by Shellbrook Audio Labs

I upgraded a Shellbrook Audio Lab Ascent to an Ascent II last Dec. 10, 2005 because the Ascent smoked due to a fabrication problem. Mr Andrew(Drew) Dunn of Shellbrook agreed to provide me with an upgrade to an Ascnet II if I returned the Ascent and paid the balance for the Ascent II...

Headroom Micro Amp/ Other Amp suggestions anyone?

You may want to check ouk Shellbrook Labs offerings. I currently have the Ascent and have just ordered the smaller more portable Maxi Moy Signature Edition. The Ascent is an amazing amp for all types of music. Until I listened to the Ascent, I was using a Creek OBH-SE11 with the OBH-2 premium...

Portable amp for a new audio junkie?

I just received a superb Ascent from Shellbrook Labs. It is modestly priced, surperbly detailed, open and transparent - it blows away the Creek OBH-11SE I have been using. Headphones used are Senn 580, Grado RS2's and SR 225's. It's a great amp. Some posts on this site allude to problems with...

Be Aware of Shell Brook Lab

I received my Ascent amp about a week ago and I still can't believe how good it sounds. Absolutely dead quiet, beautifully detailed, open and airy, with a wonderful soundstage. With quality recordings, it is as if you are at the recording venue. For the last year or so, I have been using a...
