I am looking to digitize my LP recordings. Does anyone know where I might be able to find an inexpensive A/D converter, either a small self contained unit or something in DYI kit form? Basically the most I want really want to deal with is some quick assembly like putting everything in an enclosure or soldering in a set of RCS inputs and an RF output but any information about what's available will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for any help.

I've read on a couple of threads that these are OK.

I got lucky and found a good integrated amp at Goodwill for $20. Neither a sound card nor the DIY box you describe will work. You need a RIAA phono stage, either stand alone or as part of a preamp. The output from a turntable is not line level and needs to be boosted and, I believe, equalized in some way.

Hi SCompton and Jambo,

Thanks for the replies. After thinking it through, I'll just use the A/D converters in my burner and use the signal from my preamp.

I still am interested though in finding a cheap portable A/D converter or DIY if one exists.

Regards

I've seen a review of a Berringer USB sound card that supposedly does a decent job of the A/D conversion. It's not supposed to good audio outs though, so you have to unplug it to listen to music. I plan on using my EMU 0404 USB. It's not cheap though. After 3 months of bidding on eBay, I finally got one for $120 including shipping.
