Headphones with good bass and layer separation? (For EDM)
Yeah I was looking at the HE400 but $400 is just too much. I also wanted to try the Beyers but I would have to buy them first so I could listen to them. EDIT: Which models of the DT990 and DT880 are the best for EDM? I know there are like 4 models of each so its pretty confusing.- EuphonicSilence

Headphones with good bass and layer separation? (For EDM)
Hi everyone, I currently have the HD598 which I am very pleased with, but now I want to get a headphone that is more suited for EDM. The main thing I want is to be able to hear the distinct layers in trance or house. A lot of the stuff I listen to (progressive house, trance, DnB) is quite...- EuphonicSilence

Best entry audiophile headphones under 250 dollars
Quote: Well the HD 598 is substantially better than the 558, and marginally better than the 595. I think it is one of the best entry level audiophile headphone, simply because it sounds great with nearly everything. The soundstage is enormous, (imo bigger than HD600 and 650) and it is...- EuphonicSilence

Favorite Film Scores
Braveheart's score (by James Horner) is incredible and probably my favorite, but I have been liking The Last Samurai's score (Zimmer) a lot recently. It comes in a close second. I also like these OSTs (in no particular order): A Beautiful Mind, Gladiator, Bicentennial Man, Requiem for a Dream...- EuphonicSilence

Looking for good DAC around $100
Okay I just received an Audinst HUD-MX1 that I purchased from a private seller here on head-fi. I couldn't be more happy with it! It does everything I need right now and when I upgrade headphones I will buy a separate amp and use the Audinst as a DAC.- EuphonicSilence

Looking for good DAC around $100
Quote: Cool, I'll check that out too. So I read that you can drive headphones out of it using an RCA to 3.5mm female cord, but I'm curious as to why it has a volume pot; I've never seen a dedicated DAC with one. (How would this work with a dedicated amp?)- EuphonicSilence

Looking for good DAC around $100
Quote: No I would be using the Fiio E6 with the HD 598 FOR NOW and then get a better desktop amp when I get the HD650 or HE400. LOL there is no way I would buy $400 headphones and use a $30 amp to drive them! The HD 598 is pretty efficient and can be driven to good volume with even the...- EuphonicSilence

Looking for good DAC around $100
Hi everyone, I'm looking to upgrade my source as I have been mainly listening through the headphone out on my laptop/phone. Here is my situation: I only want to spend around $130, otherwise I would probably buy the $200 Magni/Modi combo that everyone seems to love. I can either buy the e17, or...- EuphonicSilence

Fiio Andes (E07K) VS. Fiio E17: What's the difference, and how does it sway the amateur audiophile?
Which one (e17 or e07k) has a better sound quality DAC? I just need to line out to an amp; I would be using it with USB (not S/PIDF) from my computer.- EuphonicSilence

Headphone Sightings 2
Quote: AWWW Yeah! Is anyone as excited about the new album as me!? The kings have come back to reclaim the EDM throne! Anyways I saw some HD598s in the UCSB library a few days ago...I could spot them from across the room because of the color scheme (I have a pair) whereas everyone...- EuphonicSilence

Sennheiser HD 203 Repair Help
I looked at the whole cord and I could not find any signs of strain; here is a picture of where the cord connects to the driver to see if there are any abnormalities: Also I think I will go buy a multimeter tomorrow since there have been several occasions where I could have used one and...- EuphonicSilence

Sennheiser HD 203 Repair Help
Hi everyone, My friend's HD 203s, after 1 and a half years, broke. The left driver is not playing any sound. I offered to try and fix it for him. I tested it with various sources and tried rotating the plug to see if there was a short in the plug, but nothing happened (only right speaker...- EuphonicSilence

Sennheiser HD 598 Impressions Thread
Congrats on the new 'phones! I'm sure you will love the HD 598 as much as everyone else here. Regarding the burn in time, I started hearing noticeable changes around 40-50 hours. The soundstage opened up (even more so) and instrument separation was better. At that point they really started to...- EuphonicSilence

HD 598 E10+E9 Combo Question
Hey everyone, I've had my HD 598's for a few months now listening through a laptop connected to a creative x-fi 5.1 usb soundcard and I'm loving them, but I know they are not at their full potential. I'm about to order the E10 since it is now avaliable on Amazon and it seems like an excellent...- EuphonicSilence

Sennheiser HD598 & Rap/Hip-Hop
Better yet, go ahead and grab a Ferrari so your headphones (HD598) match the interior lmao. Then people won't question the oddness of your headphones when you drive past them (if they even notice the headphones ). ^The HD598 supposedly took the color scheme of the interior of some luxury...- EuphonicSilence

question for gamers
Quote: You should check out the Beyerdynamic DT880. It may be on the pricier side, but its hard to find headphones with good bass AND soundstage (most open headphones lack ideal bass) at this price point. If you don't have an amp, there is a 32 Ohm version that will work well unamped...- EuphonicSilence

question for gamers
I have the AD700 and Astro 5.8 Mixamp. This setup is really really good for FPS like CoD because of the AD700's massive soundstage combined with the greatly directionality provided by the Astro Mixamp. Not only can I pinpoint the enemy's location based on footsteps/reloads, I can tell how far...- EuphonicSilence

Had a listen to the Beats today....
I would say that the beats are the epitome of most teens today...superficial. They emphasize looks and "swag" over everything else. That being said, if I was rich I would probably own a pair just to look cool in public (without ever listening to them) .- EuphonicSilence

Astro MixAmp or Turtle Beach?
I have the Astro A30 with wireless 5.8 mixamp and it works great. The A30 headphone is very versatile because it has a removable mic and come with different length cords (one for console use, short one for portable use, and one PC use). The headphones are small and discrete and have a neat style...- EuphonicSilence
