If you still love Etymotic ER4, this is the thread for you...
Just looks like the first is the LE version and on a good discount: should be fine. I'd order myself if I hadn't just ordered Dusks.- Phybron

iFi audio iDSD Signature - The saga continues!
I can only test the 6.35mm as I don't have balanced headphones (yet), but no problem here. Tested with Fostex T50RP's on all three gain settings and sound comes on evenly in both channels from silence upwards. I'm just trying to figure out if this is a viable option for desktop use only. I've...- Phybron

Sony WH-1000XM4 discussion and reviews
Thanks, that's helpful. I did mean cable connected though. On the specifications it says the frequency response is 4-40kHz, but 20-20/40kHz via Bluetooth. So it seems to go lower when not on Bluetooth. So I was wondering what they'd sound like if I plugged them into the Dragonfly Cobalt. I'm the...- Phybron

Yes I'm suspecting the tolerances on these are very small and the FiiO's have messed something up. Good thing that they're really uncomfortable with the U12t's (when attached they are firmly touching, so clamp on the back of your ear until it hurts), so I'll ditch them and possibly stick with...- Phybron

I've already sent them - they went out yesterday. I'm unsettled though. $2k IEM's ostensibly marketed as pro-tools, for stage and studio, should not fail this quickly. I know I could just have a faulty socket, but still, if it goes again after the warranty I'm going to be pretty annoyed with...- Phybron

Sony WH-1000XM4 discussion and reviews
Ignoring all the computational and noise-cancelling features of these headphones, how do they sound when just plugged into a laptop, or portable DAC? Where would you place them in the general hierarchy of headphones that are just basic headphones? All the reviews talk about the very clever tech...- Phybron

I'm hoping that I've just got a faulty socket, but otherwise I suppose the UTSW1 has done something to it. I definitely did not have to apply any significant force for either connection, so for once, I don't think I've ham-fisted it and broken something. I only have the one 2-pin cable to test...- Phybron

I bought some U12t's new in August and I've just had to send them in for repair due to the right side connector failing - the connector no longer snaps into place, it just drops back out. I've only noticed, or caused, this problem by getting some Fiio UTSW1's about a week ago, so I've switched...- Phybron

Upgrade time: are Oppo PM-3's a good place to go from ATH-A900's?
I'm using an Audio-GD NFB15 amp/DAC and I mostly listen to electronic music. Source files are Apple Lossless format. I'm listening to my ~10 year old A900's now, with the above setup, and it sounds a bit mushy, like things are blending in together. Would the newer, presumably better, PM-3...- Phybron

Audio-GD NFB-15.32 Delivery & Impression Thread
It has three vent holes in the top, where the dust will get in How warm? When I was first running it yesterday afternoon, volume at about 10 o'clock, it was warm enough that I could feel the heat through the volume dial and go, "Wow that thing is running warm". It was pretty warm in the...- Phybron

Audio-GD NFB-15.32 Delivery & Impression Thread
Depends what you want it for. The D1 is nice and small. Obviously if you need portability there's no contest. But the NFB15 is way more usable. High/low gain, input and output switches. Much better. I tried the Aune X1s between the D1 and this, but returned it because of its lack of switches and...- Phybron

Audio-GD NFB-15.32 Delivery & Impression Thread
I just got mine today. Sounds good, better than the Audioengine D1 that I'm replacing, although not massively. I think I'm probably running into the limits of what my ATH-A900's can do, whatever I connect them to. It does run warm though. I can feel the heat coming off it; the volume dial is...- Phybron

I just got an Audioengine D1 and it's sounding the same as standard line out to me
I tried the Aune X1S, which sounded much better than the D1, unsurprisingly. But it was not ideal for connecting headphones and speakers because it has no output switch, connecting the headphones did not shut off the speakers, and the volume did not control the RCA outs. And it had no gain...- Phybron

Aune X1S DAC/ AMP
I just got the X1s. It sounds way better than the Audioengine D1 that I returned, unsurprisingly given the cost and specs. The only thing that's kind of annoying is I have to manually turn my desktop speakers off every time I want to use the headphones. It doesn't switch automatically, like the...- Phybron

Best place to purchase Audioengine A2+ (discount/coupons)??
It seems to be an anomaly, but pretty annoying if it does do it. I've convinced myself I don't need these right now. The A2's are fine. More than fine really, they're great. I tried the A5+ a year ago, and didn't find them to be much better than the A2's, but way larger, so returned them. I'm...- Phybron

Best place to purchase Audioengine A2+ (discount/coupons)??
That's cool. I actually ordered them and then cancelled because I read a bunch of people saying they kept turning off even when they were being used. Also, they may well be better than the A2's, but size-wise they're really comparable to the A5's. The A2's are an ideal size for me and I've not...- Phybron

Best place to purchase Audioengine A2+ (discount/coupons)??
Ugh this forum... I have the old A2's and now I'm wondering if I should get the Polks. They seem to be 11.6" high, quite a bit taller than the A2's, so they'd have to sit a bit behind my monitors... hmm... I was here to figure out what DAC/amp to buy.- Phybron

Audinst-HUD-MX2 DAC/Amp
Has anyone compared the Audioengine D1 to the Audinst HUD MX2? I have the D1 and can't tell the difference between that and the line out. I was thinking of trying this or a Schiit stack.- Phybron

I just got an Audioengine D1 and it's sounding the same as standard line out to me
Good point, re. end of line on the NFB15. I presumed they'd just sell the NFB11 instead, but any of those alternatives make sense. As for two Meier components, I'm sure they would be better than my D1, but it's looking like many multiples higher in price, so probably not worth it to drive...- Phybron

The site currently says: I'll have a look at those alternatives. EDIT: having looked at all of those other companies, none seem to have the combination of features that I need. I'll email AudioGD about the NFB15. If not, I'll keep the D1.- Phybron
