FWIW it sounds pretty good to me... It doesn't SLAM like maybe you're wanting it to, but it sounds to me like the idea was more of a booming rumble than crispy, enveloping drums. That's a production decision that comes down to the producer's, mix-engineer's and the artist's taste.

I just bumped it on Tidal. Sounds like there's distortion on the drums but not digital clipping. My roommate at the time this album was worked on engineered the drums so I can ask him if he remembers.

Nah, the Jotunheim has balanced pre-outs on the back with regular old XLR jacks.  The problem is that they don't have independent volume control, so unless I wanna powercycle my speakers every night, or constantly unplug the XLRs which are covered in wire spaghetti, I'll wind up thumping tunes...
