I'm using my HD25's with my j3 unamped atm and it gets the job done.   I also used the sm3's v2's with my j3 unamped (they dont really need a amp) and they sound awesome :)

Have you considered SM3v2's ? The new curved design makes them pretty comfy compared to the old square design, they lay pretty much flat with your ear and don't stick out. Since to mentioned the ex1000 the sm3's are a warm headphone but not as bass heavy as the sony's from what I read.

I was wondering if anyone on headfi painted thier HD25-1 ii to have a more customized look. I'm thinking that I should give them a light sanding, some primer, a coat of paint, and a clear coat. Or should I just spray them and skip the prep work. Anyone with experience with this ?

Can recommendations for a watch in the range of $200-$100?   I would like it to be a metal band but leather would work also. I'm looking for something not too flashy, something more subtle and stylish. Any help would be great !

I think you may have installed the CUI incorrectly,try deleting and reinstalling the CUIs?   Remeber the files go into System/Flash UI/
