I've done some quick searching and something like Beyerdynamics DT 770PRO or DT770M looks to be interesting. Any thoughts on these headphones? Are they detailed enough?

I had no problems listening to rock on my etys.

Well, depends. Do you really listen to each of your 3-4 dozen phones on a regular basis? If not, I would keep the ones you do listen to fairly regularly and sell the ones that are collecting dust.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I double checked the volume controls but that didn't help. In the end I purchased the Audio Advantage Micro and the noise is gone now.

Is this the Shure attenuator that was mentioned? Shure - Volume Control Accessory Which one do you think is a better bet to fix my problem? A DAC like the Audio Advantage Micro or this thing?

Thanks for the replies. I just realized, when I unplug the laptop and run it on battery power the noise practically disappears! Does the previous advice still apply? Any new suggestions?
