If it means anything to you, I prefer the HD595 to the HD650 in some ways. The HD580s sound a bit muffled to me.

It's pretty unlikely that you have the 120 ohm version unless it's a used pair originally purchased a year or more ago.

Depending on the source, they don't necessarily NEED an amp, but they do cerainly benefit from one. Primarily the soundstage and bass benefits from the extra power. I use a Headsave Classic with excellent results, but since those are no longer made, I'd probably suggest a Portaphile X^3 or...

Just remember that adjusting the EQ upwards is just asking for clipping. Feel free to do it anyway, but just remember to hit the "Auto level" button when you're done to prevent some potential sonic nastiness.
