don't sell your old Gilmore Lite (mk1) just yet
Don't sell your old Gilmore Lite (mk1) just yet, in case you were planning to, as I was. I've had my Gilmore Lite for over ten years. Switched from Elpac to Astrodyne a few years ago. Have been complaining about the harsh, slightly distorted high end and nearly stopped using this amp. This...- recephasan

Modding the IBasso T3D
I've just changed the opamp on my T3D, for the second time. This thread is to keep a record of it, in case anyone else is into modding. I find others' experiences useful, so here goes. Currently, I'm using AD8066, paired with my Etymotics ER-4S. Absolutely fantastic. The bass is...- recephasan

Shure E500 replacement (E530)
Last week I got sick of my E500's cables. You know, the heat treated curved ones. I bent them back and forth to see if they'd get softer. They did.. and they cracked, exposing innards. Sent them back to Shure for replacement, and a 4 days and $145 later I got a 530. I was secretly...- recephasan

etymotics flange tips: gray vs. older white
The new gray flange Ety tips crack. the plastic is of different grade. I've been using the same white ones for 5 years, no cracking. yes, they disgustingly turned yellow from the oil. but the new gray ones, with no change in color, do not last. What gives? Anyone had the same problem?- recephasan

Anyone else have a VibeZ with a dying/dead HDD?
My VibeZ HDD, though has been taking a long time dying, is now close to its last breath. Started when I'd put ~10Gb of media all at once. Would not start, or would take a long time starting, checking disk, losing restore points, etc. At one point my only remedy was disassembling the unit...- recephasan

I've modded my rsa sr-71
Heresy, says I... Well, having come up with nothing as to whether this is a good thing to do in my internet searches, I decided to satisfy my curiosity by putting a hot iron on a well-crafted amp at the peril of fixing what already works well. And after about 30 min of figuring out what...- recephasan

Went back to ER-4S after ~2yrs with E500
Went back to ER-4S (ER-4P with the P-S adapter, actually) after ~2yrs with E500, no guns to my head Why? Not that the E500 does not best the ER-4S, but after a few hours' of listening to the etys, I end up with a smile, and craving more. Somehow does not happen with the E500. Another...- recephasan

Mini-Review: Sony D-NE300
Go get one. I mean it. I have had a number of PDCPs to date, and this one is high up in the list. OK, it's probably not up to par with the ancient vintage ones out there, but it is almost as good as the Stereophile reviewed D-EJ100 (I'm A/Bing as I write this) and it plays mp3s. It is much...- recephasan

Grado Prestige Interconnects vs Outlaw PCA
Hi all, Every once in a while, I write a mini-evaluation to reveal my experiences. This, like the others, is not intended to be a review or a detailed comparison. HD600 Sound changed after bass burn-in
I used the track Gradoistcool mentioned a few weeks ago for AKG 501s (THX - Ultimate Bass Test) for about 15 hours with the Equinox cable. Switched to the stock cable and found out that it is not such a bad cable at all! Well, after the heavy burn-in, at least. Did another 5 hours of burn in...- recephasan

Another "I just modded my ART DI/O!" thread
I just modded my ART DI/O. It hasn't been half an hour yet so no comments on sonics. After using the unit with the easiest mod, the Stancor PSU upgrade for 2 years, I decided I needed a sonic change. Shorted the output caps. Changed the top 5 diodes to Schottky. Changed input resistor...- recephasan
