$200-300 IEM that's durable, comfortable, and isolates very well

Hi everybody,   I own a pair of Shure SE215s and sound-wise, I don't have any complaints. However, after 2 years of regular usage, sound always cuts out from the left earbud unless the cable is at a specific angle, so I have to keep twisting and readjusting my cable as I walk. As music is very...

++ FULL-SIZE HEADPHONE RECOMMENDATIONS THREAD++ CLOSED: Please post a thread in the Introductions, Help and Advice forum

    What's a better buy right now, SRH440 or SRH840 for unamped?   Right now:   SRH440 = $79 SRH840 pads = $17.99   Total = $96.99   SRH840 = $130   Difference = $33.01   So my question is, is it worth it for 30 bucks to upgrade from SRH440 + 840 pads to a SRH840? I ask...

Hey all,   Buying a closed pair of headphones, around the $100 range. Looking for:   1. Neutral sound signature (classical music) 2. Isolation 3. Portability (ideally straight/detachable cables, collapsible design) 4. Comfort   Any ideas? Currently considering the SRH440 at...

Need a Durable Set of IEMs for Classical, unamped (for portable use)

Well I ended up ordering the Etymotic MC5's and I'm pretty pleased with them so far. The included tri-flange tips hurt terribly awful but the glider and foam tips are much more comfortable. For some reason I couldn't seem to get much isolation from the foam tips despite inserting them as deep as...

Need a Durable Set of IEMs for Classical, unamped (for portable use)

Thanks for the links! I suppose I should also mention that I would prefer the IEMs to be as neutral as possible. I want to hear the performer/conductor's interpretation, not the IEM's ;)

Need a Durable Set of IEMs for Classical, unamped (for portable use)

Hmm, I probably will go with MC5 then. Unless there is a noticeable difference between HF5 and MC5? For the record, Amazon does list MC5 as a newer version of HF5.

Need a Durable Set of IEMs for Classical, unamped (for portable use)

Really? I seem to remember that the MC5 was criticized for being the most 'un-Etymotic'. Although, I don't have a lot of experience listening or performing live classical music.

Another possible choice I'm considering is the Etymotic HF5 which costs just over $100.

Need a Durable Set of IEMs for Classical, unamped (for portable use)

Budget about $80-100. Soundwise I think RE0 is obviously the best choice, but I have heard of lots of durability issues (i.e. broken in 1 year or less) so I feel inclined to steer away from them. Currently considering Etymotics MC5 and ER6i. I heard the construction quality is solid and the...

Bang for Buck IEMs for Classical, still RE0?

^ So I just realized that the RE-ZERO requires an adapter if you want to listen to it from a portable source. That is a major put off for me because it's annoying and losing the adapter could be a major problem. So I think I will go with the RE0's. Even though they have a high impedance, I don't...

Bang for Buck IEMs for Classical, still RE0?

Hi guys, I picked up Senn HD555 for ~$80 and I am very impressed (have yet to do the foam mod to turn them into HD595s). I also want to get a pair of IEMs for portability and isolation, preferably at around the same price, $80-100. I will be listening to classical music (piano + orchestral) on...

I need a pair of portable, closed headphones, non-amped for overall usage and traveling around. Budget around $150. It will be used for classical music (flac  + clip+) and gaming (onboard laptop sound, Realtek ALC662). Currently I am thinking of ATH-M50S or ATH-A700, unless anyone has a better...

^ What if I was not amped? Would that rule out some of the choices like K701 for better alternatives? If so, which ones?

Would you mind elaborating what would be on the top of your list then? I'm a purely classical listener with $200 to spend.   Quote:

Best $100-200 Headphones for Classical, unamped?

I listen only to classical music (mostly piano sonatas, but also orchestral works) and I'm wondering what would be the best cans to get with a $200 budget. I want these to be portable (well, as portable as cans can be) so I don't think an amplifier would be a good idea. Also I heard that open...

    Best Tips for UE TF10?

Hi all, I am thinking of getting a TF10 and I am wondering what would be the best tips to go with it. AFAIK there are 3 choices:   1. Comply TX-500, good fit and comfort but I have heard that they must be replaced very often and I really don't want to continually buy tips. Also kind of...

    Ultimate Ears TF10: Worth It?

The Sony Hybrids look very good but according to reviews, each package has lots of different sizes so you effectively only get one pair of earbuds! Is there any way around this besides paying 4 times as much as you should?

    Ultimate Ears TF10: Worth It?

Quote: What exactly does the flip mod improve on and how do I do it? Also about the foam tips. I thought the TF10 already shipped with Comply TX-500 tips, which I thought are pretty good? Is it worth getting some new tips over the ones that are already shipped?     Quote...

    Ultimate Ears TF10: Worth It?

Hey all, I am planning on buying a IEM in the $100-200 range for classical music. The UE TF10 looks very promising to me, but I have heard issues with the build quality, especially the cable and the uncomfortable foam tips. On the other hand, I have heard that the sound quality is simply amazing...
